Best VFX Studios in Austin (2026)
9 Austin VFX studios working in 2026, from Flame finishing and compositing houses to animation studios and LED volume stages

Introduction
Austin has nine VFX studios worth a call in 2026, most of them compact teams that combine compositing and finishing with editorial, colour or animation. The list below covers that range, along with two virtual production stages that handle in-camera effects for commercials and episodic work.
The city does not host a branch of the large film VFX vendors. Industrial Light & Magic lists five studios (San Francisco, Vancouver, London, Mumbai and Sydney), and Halon Entertainment works from Los Angeles, Atlanta and Glasgow. What Austin has instead is a group of independent houses serving agencies, streamers and documentary makers, plus Powerhouse Animation, whose Netflix series run through its Austin headquarters. Robert Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios remains active as a physical production base, and in 2026 Rodriguez signed on to direct The Naughty List for Paramount Animation.
Every studio here showed an active Austin-area base on its own site when checked in October 2026. The list is unranked, since the right partner depends on whether the job is beauty work on a commercial, shot-based compositing for a series, or an LED volume shoot.

In Austin it offers editing, colour and sound alongside VFX, motion graphics and CGI built in Houdini, Nuke, After Effects and Unreal Engine.

The studio has won Lone Star Emmy awards and is listed by the Austin Film Commission as the Goldilocks Virtual Production Studio. Work has covered commercials, short films, music videos and Ballet Austin's Marie Antoinette.
9. Stray Vista Studios

The studio has provided virtual production for Brothers and for The Chosen. The Austin Film Commission lists it among the city's studio facilities.
What to look for in an Austin VFX studio
Match the studio to the shot list. Most Austin houses are strongest at compositing, cleanup, beauty work and Flame finishing for commercials and documentaries. A series with hundreds of CG shots will usually need a larger vendor elsewhere, with a local studio handling supervision, temp comps or a share of the work.
Check how VFX connects to the rest of post. Several studios here also cut, grade and mix, which shortens the round trip between a comp update and a colour pass. If the edit and grade sit elsewhere, agree conform and delivery specs (EXR or DPX, colour space, handles) before turnover.
For virtual production, ask who builds the environments and when. An LED volume shoot moves VFX work into prep: Unreal environments need to be approved before the shoot day, and changes on the day are expensive. Ask for test footage from the stage with your camera and lens package.
Finally, look at how shots are reviewed. VFX runs on versions, and a studio needs a clear way to share each version, gather notes and record which take was approved. Studios with a single place for plates, renders and client notes lose less time to "which version is this" emails.
How Fabric helps VFX teams
Fabric gives a VFX studio one workspace for plates, renders, reference and client notes, with AI search across all of it. Renders and source plates sit in Fabric's cloud drive, which streams files on demand so they take no local disk space, and shared team folders always show the latest version. There is more on this in your rendering files need a home.
Finding a past shot or reference is quicker with search, which works by meaning across documents, images and transcribed recordings and includes colour search for visual assets. Similar search takes a frame or image and finds related material by composition, colour and subject, which helps when matching a look across a sequence.
For client review, any file or folder can be published as a web page with password protection, and link analytics shows when each named recipient opened it and for how long. Clients and supervisors can leave threaded comments through a shared link without an account. Timestamped comments and drawing on video and images are listed as coming soon on the annotations page; today, highlights and comments work on PDFs and documents such as shot breakdowns.
Teams comparing approaches to review can read Fabric's guide to creative proofing tools.
Password protection and link analytics are included on Pro and Team plans. See plans for teams.
