Introduction
Austin has a strong group of independent creative agencies, many of which built their reputations on Texas brands before taking on national clients. The 11 agencies below were chosen for recent work, 2025 and 2026 recognition, and the strength of their client rosters.
Two Austin independents took the top places in their size category at Ad Age's 2026 Small Agency Awards, with Preacher winning Gold and Bakery Silver among agencies of 76 to 150 people. McGarrah Jessee marked 30 years as an independent, Callen reported 80.5% revenue growth in the year to July 2026, and Quad's agency Betty opened an 8,400 square foot office on Congress Avenue in January. The client base mixes technology companies with consumer brands born in Texas, such as YETI, Tito's and Topo Chico, and SXSW brings a burst of content and experiential work every March.
Every agency here has an active Austin office in 2026. Network offices such as GSD&M are covered on our advertising agencies list. This one runs in no fixed order of merit, since the right choice depends on your brief, budget and how you like to work.
The best creative agencies in Austin
1. McGarrah Jessee
Independent · Downtown · mcj.co
McGarrah Jessee is the longest-established independent on this list. Mark McGarrah and Bryan Jessee, who had both worked at The Richards Group and GSD&M, founded it in 1996, and it turns 30 in 2026. CEO Britton Upham told Indie Agency News in March 2026 that the agency has turned down acquisition offers for 15 years. It was Ad Age's Small Agency of the Year (Gold) in 2017.
The agency is known for building fandom around Texas and outdoor brands, and YETI remains its most cited case study. Frost Bank and Whataburger have been clients for many years, and the current roster also includes Shiner, Fender, Costa Sunglasses, Kendra Scott, Ariat and Instacart. Design, media and production sit in house, along with Look Squirrel, a social production studio.
2. Preacher
Independent · Austin · preacher.co
Preacher was founded in 2014 and has become one of the most decorated small agencies in the US. It won Gold in the 76 to 150 employees category at Ad Age's 2026 Small Agency Awards, adding to Small Agency of the Year titles in 2019, 2020 and 2022. It also runs an Amsterdam office, which named Simone Moessinger executive creative director in May 2026.
Recent clients include Hertz, Xfinity, PrizePicks, Foot Locker, ESPN, GMC and Topo Chico. The Austin office doubles as a community space with a gallery, café, shop and recording studio, and the agency publishes a free art zine, The Good Word.
3. Bakery
Independent · Austin · bakery.agency
Bakery took Silver in the 76 to 150 employees category at Ad Age's 2026 Small Agency Awards, alongside Preacher's Gold. Indie Agency News described it as a shop that "starts with product, packaging and strategy before creative", which shows in work such as Peeps Marshmallow Milk for Promised Land Dairy. Jacqueline Thompson joined as its first chief operating officer and managing partner in March 2025.
Food and drink is the core of the roster. Bakery was named creative agency of record for Best Day Brewing in May 2026 and has since released work for Plenty and Dulce Vida Tequila. Its Tree Hut Super Bowl campaign in February 2026 was directed by Dave Meyers, and Shiner, Diageo and Nike (with Lil Yachty) also appear in its portfolio. It operates alongside two sibling companies, KEN Media and Supernatural.

In July 2026 Callen reported revenue growth of 80.5% over the previous 12 months and added nine staff, including creative directors from TBWA\Chiat\Day and The Martin Agency. What to look for in an Austin creative agency
Start with the category the agency already knows. Austin's independents tend to specialise: Bakery in food and drink, Idea Peddler in tourism, Mighty Citizen and Door No. 3 in public-purpose work, Bandolier in social. An agency that understands your category's retail, regulation or seasonality will spend less of the first quarter learning it.
Match the agency's size to the scope of the work. Several of the shops above sit in the 76 to 150 person range, which usually means senior attention but less capacity for national media buying or very large productions. Ask which parts are made in house and which go to partners, as with the production company of record arrangement Tilted Chair announced in 2026.
Plan around the calendar. SXSW ties up crews, venues and talent across the city each March, and agencies with tech and music clients are often busiest in the weeks before it. If a launch sits near the festival, agree production dates early.
Finally, look at how the agency handles the day-to-day: where files live, how client feedback is gathered and how approvals are recorded. Many Austin agencies work for clients in other cities, so a lot of review happens remotely. A single shared place for the latest work, with comments attached to the files themselves, saves rounds of email and lowers the risk of someone approving an out-of-date version.
How Fabric helps creative agency teams
Fabric gives an agency one workspace for its files, client feedback and team knowledge, with AI search across all of it. The agency setup is built around running several accounts at once: one space per client, with briefs, assets, decks and call notes kept together.
Campaign files, edits and photo libraries sit in Fabric's cloud drive, which streams files on demand so they take no local disk space. Editors and designers can open heavy files without waiting for a full download. Search works by meaning across documents, images and transcribed recordings, and colour search finds visual assets by shade. For references such as a past campaign or a mood, similar search surfaces related work without a typed query.
For client delivery, any file or folder can be published as a web page and shared with password protection. Link analytics shows when each named recipient opened a link and how long they spent with it, which helps with pitch decks and review rounds. Clients can leave threaded comments through a shared link without creating an account. Timestamped comments on video and images are coming soon. There is more on this approach in why agencies stop sending Google Drive links to clients.
On Team plans, self-writing docs can maintain a page for each client from meetings, Slack and the workspace itself, covering decisions, deliverables and open items. New account staff get the history without asking around.
Password protection and link analytics are included on Pro and Team plans, and self-writing docs on Team plans. See plans for teams.
