Best Creative Agencies in San Francisco (2026)

12 San Francisco creative agencies doing standout work in 2026, from Presidio independents to Bay Area integrated shops

Introduction

San Francisco has a strong bench of independent and integrated creative agencies, and the 12 below were chosen for recent work, 2025 and 2026 recognition, and the quality of their client rosters. Most are founder-led and sit outside the big holding companies.

The Bay Area scene leans towards tech clients and product-led brand work, though several of the agencies here built their names on food, drink and public health. Venables Bell + Partners turned 25 in 2026 and helped launch the Unfettered Summit, a gathering for independent agencies. Erich & Kallman and BSSP were named Ad Age Small Agency of the Year in 2024 and 2025 respectively. Some familiar names have changed shape: Eleven merged into Mekanism after Plus Company bought it, and Barrett Hofherr now trades as Optimism BH.

Every agency here has an active office in San Francisco or the wider Bay Area in 2026. Network offices such as Goodby Silverstein & Partners appear on our advertising agencies list instead. The list runs in no fixed order of merit, since the right choice depends on your brief, budget and how you like to work.

What to look for in a San Francisco creative agency

Start with the client mix. Many Bay Area agencies grew up on tech accounts and are comfortable explaining complex products, while others built their reputations on food, drink and public health. Look at work for companies at your stage, since a Series A launch and a national brand refresh need different skills.

Check who owns the agency and who will work on your account. Most agencies on this list are independent and founder-led, which usually means senior attention. Some are part of wider groups, such as Mekanism within Plus Company, which can bring media and performance capability. Ask to meet the team that will run the business day to day.

Ask how the agency handles media and production. Several shops here, including Duncan Channon, School of Thought and Cutwater, plan and buy media in-house. Others work with partners. Either approach can work, provided it is clear who is accountable for results.

Finally, look at how the agency manages files, feedback and approvals. Distributed teams are common in the Bay Area, with staff and clients spread between the city, Oakland, the Peninsula and other time zones. Agencies with a single place for the latest work and a clear review process tend to lose less time to version confusion.

How Fabric helps creative agency teams

Fabric gives an agency one workspace for its files, client feedback and team knowledge, with AI search across all of it. The agency setup suits agencies running several accounts at once: one space per client, with briefs, assets, decks and call notes kept together.

Large campaign files sit in Fabric's cloud drive, which streams files on demand so they take no local disk space. Designers and editors can open heavy files without a full download. Search works by meaning across documents, images and transcribed recordings, and colour search finds visual assets by shade. Similar search surfaces related work from a selected image, which helps when pulling references for a pitch.

For client delivery, any file or folder can be published as a web page and shared with password protection. Link analytics shows when each named recipient opened a link and how long they spent on it. Clients can leave threaded comments through a shared link without creating an account. There is more on this in why agencies stop sending Google Drive links to clients.

On Team plans, self-writing docs maintain a page for each client from meetings, Slack and the workspace, covering decisions, deliverables and open items. New account staff get the history without asking around.

Password protection and link analytics are included on Pro and Team plans, and self-writing docs on Team plans. See plans for teams.
