Introduction
New York has one of the strongest benches of commercial and long-form editorial houses in the world, and most of the agencies in the city still send their cuts to a short list of shops in SoHo, Flatiron and NoMad. The 13 editing companies below were chosen for their recent work, 2025 and 2026 recognition, and the depth of their editor rosters.
The past two years brought awards and expansion more than consolidation. Union Editorial cut a Heineken campaign that took a Grand Prix at Cannes Lions 2026, and Final Cut was named Edit House of the Year at the shots awards. PS260 opened a Los Angeles office in West Adams in June 2025. The larger structural change came a little earlier: Rock Paper Scissors, a52, Elastic and their sister companies were folded into a single studio, MakeMake, in 2023.
Every company here has an active New York office in 2026. The list is in no order of merit, since the right edit house depends on the director, the agency, the budget and whether the job is a 30-second spot or a documentary series.

What to look for in a New York editing company
Choose the editor first and the company second. Most commercial work in New York is awarded to a named editor, often one who has cut for the director before. Look at the reel of the person who will sit in the suite, and ask whether an assistant editor or a second editor will handle versioning.
Check what sits around the offline. Some houses, such as Mackcut, PS260 and Arcade Edit, offer finishing, colour or sound in the same building. Others, such as Final Cut and Whitehouse Post, work with sister companies. Keeping finishing close to the edit saves conform time, though a standalone colour or VFX partner can be the better creative choice.
Ask about long-form experience if your job runs past a few minutes. Union Editorial, Lost Planet and MakeMake all cut documentary series and features, which brings different habits around media management, assembly and structure.
Finally, agree how media and feedback will move. Agree on codecs, proxies and turnover formats before the shoot, and settle where review cuts will live and who signs off on each round. A clear process prevents late surprises when twelve versions of a spot are in circulation.
How Fabric helps editing teams
Fabric gives an edit house or an in-house video team one workspace for footage, project files, cuts and client feedback, with AI search across all of it. The video editor setup is built around the way post teams work: shared folders per job, with rushes, proxies, project files and exports kept together.
Footage sits in Fabric's cloud drive, which streams files on demand so they take no local disk space. Heavy video files open without a full download, and shared team folders always hold the latest version. That suits a proxy workflow, where editors cut from light files and conform to the originals later. There is more on this in how to edit video without filling your SSD.
Finding a shot is often the slow part. Search works by meaning across documents, images and footage, and audio and video transcription makes interviews and dialogue searchable, with results that jump to the timestamp. For documentary and long-form work, that turns a stack of selects into something an assistant can query in seconds.
For remote review, any cut or folder can be published as a web page and shared with password protection. Link analytics shows when each named recipient opened a link and how long they spent with it. Clients and agency producers can leave threaded comments through a shared link without creating an account, and timestamped comments on video are on the way through annotations. The guide to collaborating on a video project remotely covers the full setup.
Password protection and link analytics are included on Pro and Team plans. See plans for teams.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best editing company in New York?
There is no single answer, as the right house depends on the editor you want and the type of job. On 2026 recognition, Union Editorial cut a Cannes Grand Prix winner for Heineken, Cut+Run won Lions across several campaigns, and Final Cut was named Edit House of the Year at the shots awards.
What happened to Rock Paper Scissors?
In 2023 Rock Paper Scissors was merged with its sister companies a52, Elastic, Primary, Jax and Indestructible into a single studio called MakeMake. The editors and the New York office continue under the MakeMake name.
Do New York editing companies also handle colour and finishing?
Many do. PS260, Arcade Edit and Mackcut offer finishing in-house, and several others work with sister companies. If you want a dedicated colourist, see our list of the best colour grading studios in New York.
How do editors and clients review cuts remotely?
Most houses send review links through a secure platform rather than email attachments, with each round versioned and comments gathered in one place. Agree on the review tool and who gives final approval before the first cut goes out.
Which New York editing companies cut documentaries and features?
Union Editorial, Lost Planet, MakeMake and EXILE all have editors with long-form credits. Union has recently cut Netflix documentary series, and Lost Planet's roster includes feature editors Saar Klein and Affonso Gonçalves.
