Your MCP server

Access your Fabric from your
favourite apps & LLMs

Connect Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, Windsurf, and other MCP-compatible tools directly to your Fabric workspace. Search, create, and manage your content without leaving the tools you already use.

One connection, every AI tool.

Standard protocol.
Fabric's MCP server uses the open Model Context Protocol, which means any compatible AI tool can connect. Add one URL, authenticate through your browser, and you are up and running.

Simple setup.
No API keys to manage, no complex configuration files. Add the server URL to your tool of choice and Fabric handles authentication automatically through OAuth. Most tools are connected in under a minute.

Always in sync.
Your MCP connection works with the same workspace you use in the Fabric app. Notes you create from Cursor show up in Fabric. Files you save in Fabric are searchable from Claude. Everything stays connected.

Full access to your workspace.

Search everything.
Find your saved links, files, and notes from inside any connected tool. Fabric's MCP integration uses the same semantic search that powers the main app, so natural language queries work the same way.

Create and edit.
Create new notes, bookmarks, folders, and tasks directly from your AI tool. Edit existing notes, rename items, move files between folders, and manage your workspace without switching apps.

Memory and context.
Access and manage your Fabric memories from any connected tool. Create, edit, search, and organize memories so your AI tools have the same context as your Fabric AI assistant.

Your knowledge, available everywhere you work.

Most people keep their notes, research, and saved content in one place but do their actual work in another. A developer writes code in Cursor but keeps reference material in Fabric. A researcher uses Claude for analysis but stores papers and notes in their Fabric workspace. Without a connection between these tools, you end up copying and pasting context back and forth, or worse, working without the information you need because it is too inconvenient to go get it.

Fabric's MCP integration removes that friction. By connecting your workspace to the AI tools you already use, your saved content becomes available as context wherever you are working. You can ask Claude to search your Fabric workspace for a specific document, reference your notes while coding in Cursor, or create new bookmarks and tasks from ChatGPT without opening the Fabric app. Your workspace becomes a live knowledge base that your AI tools can read from and write to.

Built for developers, useful for everyone.

The MCP integration is especially valuable for developers who spend most of their day inside code editors and terminal tools. With Fabric connected to Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code, or Claude Code, you can search your saved documentation, reference notes on specific APIs or libraries, and save useful snippets or bookmarks without leaving your development environment. The CLI offers another way to interact with your Fabric workspace from the terminal for those who prefer command-line workflows.

But MCP is not only for developers. Researchers can connect Fabric to Claude Desktop and query their entire library of saved papers and notes during analysis. Product managers can access project documentation and meeting notes from any MCP-compatible tool. Anyone who uses AI tools regularly benefits from having their personal knowledge base available as context.

Works with the tools you already use.

Fabric's MCP server is compatible with a growing list of AI tools including Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, Codex, VS Code with Copilot, and ChatGPT. Because MCP is an open standard, any tool that adds MCP support automatically works with Fabric. You do not need to wait for a dedicated integration or plugin. The full setup instructions for each tool are in the MCP setup guide.

More than read-only access.

Unlike simple integrations that only let you search or read content, Fabric's MCP server supports a full range of actions. You can create notes, bookmarks, folders, and tasks. You can edit and rename existing items. You can move files between folders and manage tags. You can create and search Fabric memories so your AI tools build up the same contextual understanding over time. This makes the MCP connection a two-way bridge between your AI tools and your workspace, not just a lookup service.

Works seamlessly with other features.

AI assistant
Your Fabric AI assistant and MCP connections share the same workspace. Content created or updated through MCP is immediately available to your assistant, and vice versa.

Smart search
MCP uses the same semantic search that powers the Fabric app. Natural language queries, keyword matching, and content-based discovery all work the same way from any connected tool.

Tasks and reminders
Create and manage tasks from any MCP-compatible tool. Tasks created through MCP appear in your Fabric workspace with full support for due dates, priorities, and reminders.

Notes and docs
Create and edit notes and documents from your AI tools. Notes created through MCP are full Fabric documents that you can annotate, share, and organize like any other content.

FAQ

What is MCP?
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It is an open standard that lets AI tools connect to external services and data sources. Fabric's MCP server allows compatible AI tools to search, create, and manage content in your Fabric workspace. You can learn more at modelcontextprotocol.io.

How do I connect my tool to Fabric?
Add the server URL https://mcp.api.fabric.so/mcp to your MCP client. Most tools have a settings panel for adding MCP servers. You will be prompted to authenticate through your browser the first time you connect. Full setup instructions are in the MCP guide.

Do I need an API key?
No. Fabric's MCP server uses OAuth authentication, which means you sign in through your browser and the connection is managed automatically. There are no API keys to generate or manage.

What can I do through MCP?
You can search your workspace, create and edit notes, create bookmarks and folders, manage tasks, organize tags, and access Fabric memories. The full list of available actions is in the MCP documentation.

Does MCP work with the free plan?
MCP connectivity is available on all plans. Some actions may consume AI usage credits depending on your plan. You can check your current usage and limits in your account settings. See pricing for full details.

Is my data secure when using MCP?
Yes. MCP connections use the same OAuth authentication and encryption as the Fabric app. Your data is transmitted securely, and you can revoke access at any time. Read more about Fabric's security practices in the privacy and security guide.

Can I use MCP and the Fabric app at the same time?
Yes. MCP connects to the same workspace as the Fabric app. Changes made through MCP appear in the app, and content added through the app is searchable through MCP. Everything stays in sync.

What happens if my MCP connection stops working?
Authentication should renew automatically. If you experience issues, try removing and re-adding the Fabric MCP server in your tool's settings. The troubleshooting section of the setup guide covers common issues.

Does Fabric also have a REST API?
Yes. If you need more control or want to build custom integrations, Fabric also offers an API and a CLI tool for terminal-based workflows.

Will new AI tools work automatically?
Yes. Because MCP is an open standard, any tool that adds MCP support in the future will work with Fabric without needing a dedicated integration. You just add the same server URL.
