How-to guide

How to give ChatGPT or Claude access to your meeting recordings

A quarter’s worth of meetings holds a lot of decisions, commitments and customer quotes. Some calls were recorded in Zoom, some had a notetaker bot, a few in-person conversations weren’t captured at all, and the transcripts that do exist are spread across apps and download folders. When you want ChatGPT or Claude to answer “what did we agree with the supplier about delivery dates,” you first have to work out which meeting it was in.

This guide covers the usual ways people get meeting recordings into an AI tool, then how to capture meetings in Fabric, keep transcripts and write-ups in one library, and connect Fabric so ChatGPT or Claude can search across all of them.

How people usually get meetings into ChatGPT or Claude

The common setup is a recording or transcript from the meeting platform. Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet can all produce one, depending on your plan and admin settings. You download the transcript after the call, upload it to ChatGPT or Claude, and ask for a summary or action items. Each meeting becomes its own upload, and questions that span several meetings mean gathering several files.

Notetaker bots that join the call are the other popular option. They produce transcripts and summaries automatically, and some participants are uneasy when a bot appears in the attendee list. Their transcripts also live in the bot’s own app, so using them with ChatGPT or Claude involves exporting or copying.

In-person meetings, phone calls and quick hallway conversations often have no recording at all, so the AI has nothing to work from. How to take meeting notes without a bot joining the call looks at that side of the problem.

Step 1: Capture meetings in Fabric

Install the Fabric desktop app. When you start a call in Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet, Fabric detects the meeting and offers to start transcribing. No bot joins the call. The transcript appears in real time, and you can search it or ask the AI questions while the meeting is still going.

Write notes before or during the call if you like. When the meeting ends, Fabric analyzes your notes and the transcript together and produces a write-up of the meeting.

For in-person meetings, start a meeting note manually in any Fabric app, including on your phone, and the same write-up happens when you stop. Meeting notes in Fabric covers both routes. Recording and transcription need a paid plan.

Step 2: Bring in recordings you already have

Older recordings can be uploaded too. Drag in MP4, MOV or WebM video, or MP3, WAV or M4A audio, and Fabric transcribes the files. Transcripts are searchable and editable, which helps with names and acronyms.

Transcripts you downloaded from other tools can come in as files as well. A TXT or DOCX transcript uploads like any other document and becomes searchable alongside the recordings Fabric transcribed itself.

Once the meetings are in, Fabric writes a summary of each and extracts topics, and search finds a moment in any of them by meaning, jumping to the exact timestamp. If you keep meetings for one client or project in one folder, the folder becomes an easy way to point an AI at that set later. The meetings knowledge base page shows how teams use this.

Step 3: Connect Fabric to ChatGPT or Claude

Use the Fabric MCP server. Its URL is https://mcp.api.fabric.so/mcp, and you sign in with OAuth, so no API keys are needed.

For ChatGPT: Settings, then Connectors, then Add Connector. Enter the server URL and a name, and save. In a new conversation, click More, choose Add Connectors, select Fabric, and sign in when prompted.

For Claude: add Fabric through Claude’s official connector directory, or set it up in Claude Desktop under Settings and Connectors by adding a custom connector with a name and the URL, then following the sign-in prompts.

If sign-in fails, remove the Fabric server and add it again.

Step 4: Ask questions across your meetings

Now ChatGPT or Claude can search your meeting transcripts and write-ups in Fabric and read them. That makes cross-meeting questions practical: “Search my Fabric meetings with Northwind from the last two months and list every commitment we made about delivery dates,” or “Find the customer calls where people mentioned pricing and summarize the objections.”

You can prepare for the next call the same way. Ask for a brief of everything discussed with a client so far, then have the AI tool save it to Fabric as a note, or create tasks for the open items it found. Items it creates count against your Fabric storage and AI usage. For spotting patterns over time, see how to find recurring themes across your meetings.

For recurring meetings, such as a weekly team check-in, ask the AI tool to read the last few write-ups and list the topics that keep coming up without a resolution. Doing that by hand means rereading several weeks of notes.

Frequently asked questions

Can ChatGPT access my Zoom recordings?

If the meeting is captured in Fabric, or the recording is uploaded and transcribed there, ChatGPT can search and read the transcript once Fabric is connected as a connector.

Does Fabric add a bot to my meetings?

No. The Fabric desktop app detects Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet calls on your computer and transcribes them without a bot joining.

Can Claude summarize all my meetings with one client?

Yes. With Fabric connected, ask Claude to search your Fabric meetings for that client and summarize them. Keeping a client’s meetings in one folder makes the request easier to word.

Can I record in-person meetings for my AI tool?

Yes. Start a meeting note manually in any Fabric app. How to record and transcribe an in-person meeting has the details.

Do I need a paid plan to transcribe meetings?

Yes. Meeting recording and transcription need a paid plan. See pricing.

Can I ask questions during the meeting?

Yes. In Fabric, the live transcript is searchable during the call and you can ask the AI questions about it while the meeting is going.

Will answers point to where something was said?

Fabric’s own AI assistant cites sources with timestamps for audio and video. From ChatGPT or Claude, ask which meeting a point came from and open it in Fabric.

Can I use Fabric meeting transcripts in Claude Code or Cursor?

Yes. Add the Fabric MCP server with the same URL. In Claude Code, run claude mcp add fabric --transport http https://mcp.api.fabric.so/mcp and restart.

Can ChatGPT find a quote from a specific meeting?

Yes, if the meeting is in Fabric. Ask it to search your meetings for the topic or phrase, and it can read the transcript where it comes up. How to find something someone said in a meeting covers the same search inside Fabric.
