How-to guide

How to give ChatGPT or Claude access to your bookmarks

Bookmarks pile up quietly. There’s a folder in Chrome called Read later, a few hundred starred links in a phone browser, and a handful of tabs left open for weeks because closing them felt risky. When a project starts and you remember saving a good article on onboarding emails or a pricing page you liked, the obvious move now is to ask ChatGPT or Claude. The trouble is that neither of them knows what you saved.

This page explains how people usually get bookmarked links in front of an AI tool, and how to keep bookmarks in Fabric, connect Fabric to ChatGPT or Claude, and then ask questions about your saved links or have the AI save new ones.

How people usually share bookmarks with an AI tool

The quickest route is to paste a URL into the chat and ask about it. Depending on the tool and settings, the model may fetch the live page or work from what it can find about the link. The live page may have changed since you saved it, and some pages sit behind a login the AI tool can’t use.

Browser bookmarks themselves hold a title and an address. You can export them as an HTML file and upload that to a chat, which gives the model a list of links to look through, sorted into whatever folders you made years ago, but none of the writing on the pages behind them.

Read-later apps and visual boards keep a copy of each page, which helps. Getting that content into ChatGPT or Claude still means opening each item and copying text across. The distinction between keeping an address and keeping the content is covered in bookmarking vs. saving.

Step 1: Save your bookmarks to Fabric

Paste a link into Fabric and it becomes a bookmark. Fabric works out the content type on its own and saves the page for reading and search, so the text of the article or product page is kept with the link. While browsing, the browser extension for Chrome, Safari and Firefox saves the whole website, a screenshot of the page, selected text or images.

On a phone, tap Share in any app and choose Fabric to send the link over. The iOS and Android apps use the system share sheet, so links from a news app, a messaging app or a social feed all land in the same place.

For the bookmarks already in your browser, Fabric can import a browser bookmarks file. How to import your browser bookmarks walks through exporting the file from your browser. You can add a comment or tags to any bookmark as you save it, which helps later when the reason you saved it isn’t obvious from the page.

Step 2: Check you can find bookmarks by what they’re about

Fabric creates embeddings for each saved page, writes a summary, and extracts attributes such as content type and topics. That means search can match a bookmark by meaning even when its title is vague. Press Cmd+F (Mac) / Ctrl+F (Windows) and describe a link you remember saving, such as “article about writing onboarding emails for a SaaS product.”

If you have one good example and want more like it, select that bookmark and run a similarity search. Fabric returns saved items with related content. Whatever works here is what ChatGPT or Claude will be searching once they’re connected.

Step 3: Add Fabric as a connector in ChatGPT or Claude

Fabric connects to AI tools through its MCP server at https://mcp.api.fabric.so/mcp. You sign in with OAuth rather than pasting an API key.

In ChatGPT: open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add Connector. Paste the server URL, name it Fabric and save. In a new conversation, click More, choose Add Connectors, pick Fabric and sign in when asked.

In Claude: add Fabric from Claude’s official connector directory. If you prefer the manual route in Claude Desktop, go to Settings, open Connectors, add a custom connector with a name and the server URL, and complete the sign-in prompts.

Should sign-in fail, delete the Fabric server from the AI tool and add it again.

Step 4: Ask about your saved links, and save new ones

With the connector on, the AI tool can search Fabric and read the saved content of your bookmarks. Questions that used to mean scrolling a bookmarks bar become prompts: “Search my Fabric bookmarks for pricing pages I saved and list the pricing models they use,” or “Find the articles I saved about remote onboarding and pull out the advice they agree on.”

Because the model reads the copy saved in Fabric, the answer reflects the page as it was when you kept it, which matters for product pages and news that change.

The connection can also add to your library. The AI tool can create bookmarks, notes, folders and tags in Fabric, so when a conversation turns up a useful link you can say “save this to Fabric in a folder called Competitor research.” It can also write a note summarizing a group of bookmarks. Items it creates count against your Fabric storage and AI usage.

Frequently asked questions

Can ChatGPT see my Chrome bookmarks?

It can once they’re in Fabric. Import your browser bookmarks file into Fabric or save links with the extension, then connect Fabric to ChatGPT through the MCP server so it can search them.

Does Fabric save the page or only the link?

Bookmarks in Fabric are saved with the page for reading and search, so the AI tool can read the content as it was when you saved it.

Can Claude save a link to my Fabric library?

Yes. Once Fabric is connected, Claude can create bookmarks, notes, folders and tags in Fabric when you ask it to.

How do I find a bookmark when I only remember the topic?

Search Fabric with a description of the topic. Search matches by meaning as well as keywords, so the bookmark’s title doesn’t need to contain your words.

Does the connector work in Claude Code or Cursor?

Yes. In Claude Code run claude mcp add fabric --transport http https://mcp.api.fabric.so/mcp and restart. In Cursor, open Cursor Settings, go to MCP, choose Add new MCP Server, set the type to URL and enter the server URL.

Can I save bookmarks from my phone?

Yes. Use the share sheet in any iOS or Android app and choose Fabric.

Can I ask about my bookmarks inside Fabric instead?

Yes. Open the AI assistant in Fabric, or open a folder of bookmarks first so the assistant is limited to it. Answers cite the saved items they drew on.

What’s included on Fabric’s free plan?

The free plan includes notes, file uploads, the reader, the handwriting scanner, publishing and limited AI use. Connections to other apps and transcription need a paid plan; see pricing.
