How-to guide

How to find a TikTok you saved

Somebody on TikTok explained a budgeting rule that made sense, or showed a ten-minute pasta dish, or demonstrated a stretch for a stiff lower back. You tapped Favorites and moved on. Weeks later you want it back, and you’re scrolling a grid of thumbnails where every cover frame looks much like the next.

This guide covers how people usually find a saved TikTok, and how to send TikToks to Fabric so you can find one by what was said in it, then jump straight to that moment.

How people usually find a TikTok they saved

TikTok’s Favorites tab is the default home for saved videos, and you can sort favorites into collections. For a few dozen saves, scrolling the grid works. Once there are hundreds, the thumbnails stop helping, because what you remember is usually something the creator said, not what the first frame looked like.

The next option is TikTok’s search, typing what you remember and hoping the same video comes up. It searches the whole platform, so results often include similar videos from other creators, which can be useful but isn’t the one you saved.

Some people send TikToks to a friend or to themselves in a chat so there’s a thread to scroll later, or screen record the ones that matter. Both get the video out of the Favorites grid. Neither makes the spoken content searchable, and the spoken content is usually the part you need.

Step 1: Send TikToks to Fabric

In the TikTok app, tap Share on a video and choose Fabric from the share sheet. The link arrives in your library as a bookmark. On a computer, copy the video’s link and paste it into Fabric; Fabric works out that it’s a link and saves it. Get the app from the mobile download page if you don’t have it.

If you watch TikTok in a desktop browser, the browser extension for Chrome, Safari and Firefox can save the page or a screenshot of it in one click. A screenshot is a useful extra for videos where the on-screen text matters, since search reads text inside screenshots.

Add a comment or tags as you save if you like. Something short, such as “try this on Sunday” or “for Mom’s back”, records why you saved it, which is often what you’ll remember.

If you also save from Instagram, how to save recipes from Instagram and TikTok walks through one common use of this setup.

Step 2: Transcribe the video

Fabric transcribes TikTok links, along with YouTube and podcast links and uploaded audio and video. Once a TikTok has a transcript, every word the creator said becomes searchable, and you can edit the transcript if a word comes out wrong. Transcription needs a paid plan.

Fabric also processes each saved video as it does any item: it creates embeddings so search can match by meaning, writes a summary, and suggests tags. A TikTok about splitting rent with roommates can then come up for a search about shared living costs.

Step 3: Search by what was said

Click Search or press Cmd+F (Mac) / Ctrl+F (Windows), or use search in the mobile app, and describe the video: “budget rule with three percentages”, “quick pasta with lemon and chili”, “stretch for lower back pain at a desk”. Fabric search matches by meaning and keyword across transcripts, notes, bookmarks and files together.

Results from a transcript jump to the timestamp, so a two-minute video opens at the moment the creator gave the measurement or named the product. That saves rewatching the whole clip to find one line.

If you remember an exact phrase, such as a catchphrase or a product name, put it in quotes for strict matching. The kind-of-item filter keeps results to bookmarks, which helps when the same topic also appears in your notes. You can also filter by tag if you tagged your saves.

Step 4: Ask the AI what the TikTok said

Sometimes you only need the detail. Ask the AI assistant “what oven temperature did that roast vegetables TikTok use?” It answers from your saved videos with clickable references that include timestamps, so you can watch the moment yourself. If it picks the wrong video, a follow-up such as “no, the one with the air fryer” usually gets there.

Put a folder of TikToks in the assistant’s context, by opening the folder or right-clicking it and adding it, and you can ask across the whole set: “list the exercises in my physio folder with how many reps each creator suggested”. You can save the answer as a note.

Step 5: Let similar videos gather

Saved TikToks often cluster around a few interests. A smart collection fills itself based on content, so a collection for recipes or workouts picks up new saves on that subject. To find videos like one you already have, select it and run a similarity search.

Similarity search starts from any item, not only a video. Select a note you wrote about meal planning, for example, and the cooking TikToks that relate to it can turn up alongside recipes and bookmarks on the same theme.

For videos with little or no speech, a comment added when you save gives search something extra to match.
