How-to guide

How to find a post you saved on social media

Saving a post takes one tap. Finding it again takes longer. The thread on negotiating a salary was on LinkedIn, or possibly X. The apartment layout with the clever storage was an Instagram post, unless it was a Reddit comment with a photo. Each platform keeps its own saved list, mostly in the order you saved things, and none of them can see what the others hold.

This guide covers how people usually get back to saved posts, and how to save posts from any platform into Fabric so you can find one later by describing what it said or showed.

How people usually find a saved post

The obvious route is the platform’s own saved or bookmarks section. Instagram has collections, X has bookmarks, LinkedIn and Reddit have saved items. They work well inside a single app. The difficulty comes when you can’t remember which app it was, and when a saved list has grown to hundreds of posts you scroll through in date order.

Screenshots are the other common habit. They capture the post as it looked and don’t depend on the original staying online. They also join the camera roll alongside everything else, so finding the right one tends to mean scrolling back through weeks of photos.

Some people send posts to themselves in a chat, email them, or drop links into a notes app. These spread the problem across more places. In each case the saving is quick, and getting back to the post depends on remembering where it went.

Step 1: Save posts to Fabric from your phone

In Instagram, X, LinkedIn, Reddit or any other app, tap Share on a post and choose Fabric. The share sheet sends links, files and text, so a post link becomes a bookmark in your library. Fabric saves the page for reading and search, which means you can find it later by what it said. The app is on the mobile download page.

You can add a comment or tags as you save, for instance “for the kitchen redesign” or “good reply to send Alex”. A few words of your own reasoning are often what you remember months later.

Step 2: Save from your browser and your screenshots

On a laptop, the browser extension for Chrome, Safari and Firefox saves a whole page, a screenshot of the page, selected text, or images. Taking a screenshot of a post keeps it as it appeared, while saving selected text is handy for a single useful comment in a long thread.

For screenshots you take on your phone, Fabric can import them automatically from iOS and Android. Search reads text inside screenshots and recognizes what’s in them visually, so a screenshot of a recipe card or a chart becomes searchable without any typing.

Video posts such as Reels and TikToks can be transcribed from the link, which makes what was said in them searchable too. Transcription needs a paid plan.

Step 3: Describe the post in search

Open search with the button or Cmd+F (Mac) / Ctrl+F (Windows) and describe the post: “thread about negotiating a salary offer”, “small apartment with storage under the stairs”, “chart showing coffee prices over ten years”. Search matches by meaning and by keyword, across bookmarks, screenshots and transcripts at once.

Each saved item is processed on arrival. Fabric creates embeddings for meaning-based search, writes a summary, extracts attributes like content type, topics and colors, and suggests tags. A saved post about remote work can match a search for working from home, even if the wording differs.

Filters narrow results by kind of item, which helps when you know it was a screenshot rather than a link. If you remember the account name or a distinctive phrase from the post, put it in quotes for an exact match. For visual posts, color search works too: paste a HEX code or pick a shade with the color picker to find images in that palette.

Step 4: Follow the trail with similarity search

If you find a post close to the one you want, select it and run a similarity search. Fabric returns items like it across your library. For images, similarity covers composition, color and subject, so one saved interior photo can surface the other rooms you saved in a similar style.

This is useful for inspiration collections built over months. How to find something you saved months ago has more ways to come at an old save.

Step 5: Ask the AI assistant about what you saved

When the memory is only an idea, ask the AI assistant “what was that post about pricing freelance design work?” It searches your library and connected apps, answers with clickable references to the saved posts, and takes follow-up questions.

You can also put a folder of saves in context, such as everything saved for a trip, and ask it to pull out the restaurant names or the tips that came up more than once. Answers can be saved as notes.
