How-to guide

How to ask AI questions about your saved posts

Saving a post takes one tap, which is how saved lists grow into the hundreds. A LinkedIn post about negotiating a raise, a Reddit thread on fixing a leaking tap, a TikTok with a pasta recipe, an Instagram carousel of travel tips for Lisbon. The saving is easy. Months later, when the leak comes back or the Lisbon trip is booked, the useful part is somewhere in a saved list you’d have to scroll through app by app.

This guide covers how people usually keep track of saved posts, and how to collect them in Fabric so you can ask its AI assistant questions about what they said, including what was spoken in saved videos.

How people usually keep track of saved posts

Each platform’s own save or bookmark feature is the default. Instagram has collections, TikTok has favorites, Reddit and LinkedIn have saved items, X has bookmarks. Each works well inside its own app. Saves are split across five places, though, and finding one usually means remembering which app it was in.

Screenshots are the other common habit, because they’re quick and work everywhere. They also end up mixed into the camera roll with everything else, and a screenshot of a video shows a single frame of something that was mostly said out loud.

Some people send links to themselves in a chat or email, or pin images to Pinterest boards. Both keep the link. Working out what a dozen of those posts had in common still means opening each one. The difference between keeping a link and keeping the content is covered in bookmarking vs. saving.

Step 1: Save posts to Fabric as you find them

On your phone, tap Share on the post in any app and choose Fabric. The share sheet in the Fabric mobile app sends links, files and text, so posts from Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Reddit or X go into the same library. On a computer, paste the link into Fabric and it becomes a bookmark, with the page saved for reading and search.

The browser extension for Chrome, Safari and Firefox saves a whole page, a screenshot of it, selected text or images. Selecting the text of a long post before saving is a quick way to keep the part you care about. You can add a comment or tags to anything you save, such as “for the Lisbon trip”.

If screenshots are your habit, Fabric can import them automatically from iOS and Android. Text and visual content in screenshots are both searchable, so a screenshot of a tweet can be found by what it says.

Step 2: Get the spoken part of video posts

Much of what’s useful in a TikTok, Reel or YouTube video is said aloud. Fabric transcribes these from the link, so the recipe quantities, product names or step-by-step instructions become text you can search and ask about. Podcast links can be transcribed the same way.

Transcription needs a paid plan. On the free plan, the link is still saved and you can add your own comment about what the video covered. How to save recipes from Instagram and TikTok walks through this for one common kind of video.

Step 3: Ask the assistant about your saves

Open the AI assistant and ask about what you’ve saved. To focus on one theme, move those saves into a folder and open the assistant inside it; it’s automatically limited to that folder. Right-clicking a folder and adding it to the assistant’s context does the same.

Ask the questions that made you save the posts. “What were the tips for negotiating a raise in the posts I saved?” “Which of my saved recipes use chickpeas?” “What did that Reddit thread say causes a tap to drip after replacing the washer?” “Make a packing list from my Lisbon saves.” Answers cite the posts they came from with clickable references, and for videos the references include timestamps, so you can jump to the moment it was said.

Follow-up questions help when the first answer pulls from several posts. Ask which one gave the most detailed instructions, or whether any of the posts disagree.

Step 4: Find the post itself

Sometimes you want the original post more than an answer. Click Search or press Cmd+F (Mac) / Ctrl+F (Windows) and describe it. Search matches by meaning and keyword, and covers transcribed video and text in screenshots. Filters narrow results by tag or kind of item.

To find posts like one you already have, select it and use similarity search. Fabric finds anything like it across your library, which helps gather related saves into a folder before you ask the assistant about them.

Step 5: Keep the answers you’ll use again

An answer drawn from twenty saved posts is often more useful than any single post. Save it as a note: a shortlist of Lisbon restaurants with the post each came from, a week of dinners from your saved recipes, or the five negotiation tips that came up most often. The note sits in your library beside the posts, and you can edit it as plans change.

Saved posts keep arriving, so the same question can be asked again in a month and pick up whatever you’ve added since.

Frequently asked questions

How do I save Instagram or TikTok posts to Fabric?

Tap Share on the post, then choose Fabric from the share sheet on iOS or Android. On a computer, paste the link into Fabric.

Can AI understand what was said in a TikTok or Reel?

Yes. Fabric transcribes TikTok, Reels and YouTube videos from the link, and the assistant answers questions about them with timestamps. Transcription needs a paid plan.

Can I ask questions about LinkedIn or Reddit posts I’ve saved?

Yes. Save the link to Fabric and the page is saved for reading and search, so the assistant can draw on it.

Can I search my saved screenshots?

Yes. Text and visual content in screenshots are both searchable, and Fabric can import screenshots automatically from iOS and Android.

Do I have to sort my saved posts into folders?

No. Search and the assistant work across your whole library. A folder helps when you want the assistant to answer from one theme only.

Can I save posts from my computer?

Yes. Paste the link into Fabric, or use the browser extension for Chrome, Safari or Firefox to save the page, selected text or images.

How do I keep everything I find online in one place?

Use the share sheet on your phone and the browser extension on your computer, and both send to the same library. How to save everything you find online in one place covers the full setup.

Can I ask AI about saved posts on the free plan?

Yes, with limited AI use. Video transcription needs a paid plan. See pricing for details.
