Sync your Google Drive files into Fabric.

### What is Google Drive?

Google Drive is Google's cloud storage, where most people keep their documents, spreadsheets, slides, and PDFs. It's where work accumulates. What it was never built to do is help you find that work by what it's about, only by what you called it and where you put it. Unless you remember the right filename or folder, you're scrolling. That's the gap this connection closes.

### What you get when you connect Google Drive

Connecting Google Drive to Fabric means you stop searching by filename and start searching by meaning. Ask for "the contract clause about early termination" or "the deck where we sized the European market" and Fabric finds it, even when those exact words appear nowhere in the title. It reads the inside of every file, so a line on page four of a PDF is as findable as the name on the folder.

The sync runs both ways. Your files stay in Drive, but you can open, comment on, and edit them from inside Fabric, and the changes flow back. So Drive becomes searchable by meaning and connected to everything else you've saved, without becoming a separate copy you have to keep in step by hand.

### Search inside every Drive file by meaning

This is the part Drive can't do. Drive matches filenames and some text. Fabric reads what's *in* the file and understands what it means.

That gap matters most when you only half-remember something. A figure from a quarterly report. A paragraph of feedback buried in a shared doc. A diagram three slides into a presentation. With [semantic search](https://fabric.so/features/search), you describe the thing in plain language and Fabric surfaces it across every document, spreadsheet, slide, and PDF in your connected Drive. No exact-match keyword, no remembering where you filed it.

It reaches inside formats Drive treats as opaque, too. The text in a scanned PDF, the contents of a slide deck, the figures in a sheet. Fabric indexes all of it, so a search for a concept returns the file that discusses that concept, wherever the words happen to sit.

### Find, edit, and organise without leaving Fabric

Because the connection is two-way, your Drive isn't read-only inside Fabric. Open a document and edit it, leave comments, and the changes sync straight back to Drive. The file you found by meaning is the file you work in, in the same place, without the round trip out to Drive and back.

The same is true when you ask Fabric's [AI assistant](https://fabric.so/features/ai-assistant) to act on your behalf. It can do anything you can do with your Drive, including moving and rearranging files for you, so the tidying you'd otherwise put off can simply be asked for. It works from your actual files, so you can also have it pull the key points from a folder of reports, compare what two documents say, or draft something grounded in material you've already collected, answering from your Drive rather than the open web.

Your Drive files don't sit in isolation, either. Fabric maps each one against your notes, web clippings, voice memos, and anything you've brought in from other [connections](https://fabric.so/connections), surfacing related pieces you'd never have thought to look for. The research PDF you saved last year shows up beside the Drive doc you're writing today, because they're about the same thing.

### How people use it

**Researchers** keep every paper, report, and dataset in Drive and rely on Fabric to find the one that made a particular argument months later, then connect it to newer reading on the same question. The [research workflow](https://fabric.so/learn/research-workflow) holds up across years, not weeks.

**Designers** store exports, briefs, and references in Drive and pull them back by describing the visual or the project, rather than digging through folders named after clients they've half-forgotten. It pairs naturally with design files exported from Figma.

**Students** keep lecture slides, readings, and past essays in Drive and search the whole term by topic when an exam or deadline forces them to find where something was covered. It slots into a wider [study system](https://fabric.so/learn/student-study-system).

**Teams and consultants** keep shared documents in Drive and use Fabric to retrieve the deliverable, clause, or figure a client asks about, then edit it on the spot, without anyone needing to remember the folder structure.

The longer you use it, the better it gets. After a year of Drive files flowing in, a question you ask draws on a far richer, more connected body of work than the same question would after a week. Fabric is [built on a memory engine](https://fabric.so/features/search) that maps the relationships between everything you save, so recall compounds rather than flattening out.

### Frequently asked questions

**Can I search inside Google Drive files, not just by filename?**

Yes. This is the heart of the connection. Fabric reads the full contents of every Drive file, so you can find a document from a phrase, idea, or figure inside it, even when the filename gives nothing away. Drive's own search is largely title and keyword based; Fabric's [semantic search](https://fabric.so/features/search) understands what the file is about.

**Can I edit my Google Drive files inside Fabric?**

Yes. The connection syncs both ways, so you can open, comment on, and edit Drive documents from inside Fabric, and your changes sync back to Drive. You don't have to switch between the two to find a file in one and work on it in the other.

**Does connecting Drive to Fabric move or delete my files?**

No. Your files stay in Google Drive. Fabric keeps them synced and searchable rather than relocating them. Nothing is moved or removed unless you choose to do it, whether yourself or by asking Fabric's assistant to organise things for you.

**Is there a limit on how many Drive files Fabric will sync?**

Yes. The Google Drive connection syncs up to 5,000 files. Files beyond that limit are not synced, so if your Drive is larger it's worth connecting the accounts or folders that matter most for search.

**Can Fabric read text inside scanned PDFs from my Drive?**

Yes. Fabric indexes the text inside PDFs, including scanned ones, so a search for a concept returns the right document even when the words are locked inside an image-based file.

**How is this different from just using Google Drive search?**

Drive search mostly matches filenames and some document text, so you need to remember roughly what a file was called or what it contained. Fabric searches by meaning across the inside of every file, connects related documents to one another, and lets you ask questions across the whole collection with an [AI assistant](https://fabric.so/features/ai-assistant). It's the difference between finding a file you can already name and finding the one you'd forgotten you had.

**Can Fabric's AI assistant organise my Google Drive for me?**

Yes. The assistant can do anything you can do with your Drive, including moving and rearranging files, so you can ask it to tidy or restructure things rather than doing it by hand.

**What file types from Drive does Fabric support?**

Documents, slides, spreadsheets, PDFs, images, and more. Fabric reads inside each format, including the text in PDFs and the contents of presentations, so they're all searchable by meaning. The guide lists the full set of [supported files](https://fabric.so/guide/supported-files).

**Can I connect more than one Google Drive account?**

Yes. You can connect multiple Drives, and Fabric searches across all of them together alongside the rest of your content, within the overall sync limit.

**Is my Google Drive data secure in Fabric?**

Everything in Fabric is encrypted in transit and at rest, with AES-256 encryption on stored files. The specifics are in the [privacy and security guide](https://fabric.so/guide/privacy-and-security/basics) and Fabric's [privacy commitment](https://fabric.so/info/privacy).

**Can the AI assistant answer questions using my Drive documents?**

Yes. The [AI assistant](https://fabric.so/features/ai-assistant) works from your connected material, so it can summarise a folder, compare two documents, or draft from what's in your Drive, answering from your files rather than the open web.

**Does Fabric work with other tools alongside Google Drive?**

Yes. Drive is one of many [connections](https://fabric.so/connections). You can bring in [Dropbox](https://fabric.so/marketplace/connections/dropbox/ozUGYV4C), [Notion](https://fabric.so/marketplace/connections/notion/S7HtdFtL), [Gmail](https://fabric.so/marketplace/connections/gmail/5zZcTVqZ), and more, and Fabric searches and connects across all of them at once.

**Do I need to reorganise my Drive folders for this to work?**

No. Fabric works with your Drive as it is. The point of searching by meaning is that you stop depending on folder structure or filenames to find things, so there's nothing to tidy up first.

**What is the Google Drive connection in Fabric?**

It's a two-way link between your Google Drive and Fabric. Once connected, your Drive files become searchable by meaning, connected to everything else you've saved, and editable from inside Fabric, with changes syncing back to Drive. Google Drive itself is Google's cloud storage for documents, slides, spreadsheets, and PDFs.

### What is Google Drive?

Google Drive is Google's cloud storage, where most people keep their documents, spreadsheets, slides, and PDFs. Managing what's in it, finding the right file, moving things into the right folder, copying, renaming, tidying up permissions, is the sort of small admin that eats time and rarely gets done. This connection hands that work to Fabric's assistant: you ask, in plain language, and it does it in your Drive.

### What Fabric's assistant can do in your Drive

Once your Google Drive is connected, Fabric's [AI assistant](https://fabric.so/features/ai-assistant) can carry out the operations you'd otherwise click through by hand. You describe what you want and it does it, so managing Drive becomes a conversation rather than a chore.

**Find things.** Ask it to find a file or folder, or retrieve something by ID, and it surfaces what you're after without you digging through the folder tree.

**Create and add.** Have it create a folder, create a file from text you give it, upload a file, or make a shortcut, so new things land in the right place from the start.

**Organise and tidy.** Ask it to move a file, copy one, rename files or folders, update metadata, or replace a file with a new version. The reorganising you keep putting off can simply be asked for.

**Manage sharing.** It can get a file's permissions, add a sharing preference, remove a permission, or set up a shared drive, so access control stops being a fiddly detour.

**Export and clean up.** Have it export a file to another format, or delete files when you're clearing space.

Because the assistant can do anything you can do in Drive, the list isn't really a menu to memorise, you just say what you want in your own words and it maps that to the right action.

### You stay in control

The assistant acts only when you ask it to. For anything destructive, deleting, replacing, or removing access, it confirms with you before it goes ahead, so nothing irreversible happens without your say-so. You're describing intentions and approving the consequential steps, not handing over the keys.

When there's a job you'd rather not do by hand each time, you can set up a [Fabric AI job](https://fabric.so/features/agents) that performs Drive actions on a schedule, tidying a folder weekly, exporting or filing new files on a regular basis, so the routine parts run themselves while you keep approval over the one-off, riskier ones.

### Search your Drive from Fabric

Alongside the assistant, connecting Drive adds keyword search over your Drive files from Fabric's main search, so you can look for a file by name or matching text in the same place you search the rest of your library. For deep, meaning-based search that reads inside your files, the separate [Google Drive sync connection](https://fabric.so/marketplace/connections/google-drive/x52cHqan) is the one to add; this connection is about acting on your Drive and finding files by keyword.

### How people use it

**Busy operators** offload Drive admin, moving, renaming, filing, sorting permissions, to the assistant, so the housekeeping that piles up gets handled in a sentence rather than a session of clicking.

**Teams** have the assistant set up folders, shared drives, and access as projects spin up, keeping structure consistent without someone manually configuring each one.

**Anyone with a messy Drive** can ask the assistant to reorganise, tidy a folder, standardise names, clear out the obvious cruft, rather than facing it by hand.

**People who repeat the same file chores** set up a scheduled [AI job](https://fabric.so/features/agents) to run them automatically, so recurring filing or exports happen without a reminder.

### Frequently asked questions

**What does the Google Drive connection do?**

It lets Fabric's [AI assistant](https://fabric.so/features/ai-assistant) manage your Google Drive for you, finding, creating, moving, copying, renaming, exporting, and organising files and folders, and handling sharing and permissions, all from plain-language requests. It also adds keyword search over your Drive in Fabric's main search.

**What actions can the assistant take in Drive?**

Among others: find a file or folder, retrieve by ID, create folders and files, upload and replace files, copy and move files, rename, update metadata, create shortcuts and shared drives, export files, manage sharing and permissions, and delete files. Because it can do what you can do in Drive, you ask in your own words rather than picking from a fixed list.

**Does the assistant act on its own?**

No. It acts only when you ask. For destructive actions like deleting or replacing a file or removing access, it confirms with you first. If you want certain actions to run automatically, you can set that up deliberately as a scheduled [AI job](https://fabric.so/features/agents).

**Can I automate Drive actions on a schedule?**

Yes. You can create a [Fabric AI job](https://fabric.so/features/agents) that performs Drive actions on a recurring basis, for example tidying or filing on a weekly schedule, so routine work runs itself while you keep approval over one-off destructive actions.

**Can I search my Drive files with this connection?**

Yes, by keyword, from Fabric's main search. For search that reads inside your files and works by meaning, add the [Google Drive sync connection](https://fabric.so/marketplace/connections/google-drive/x52cHqan) instead; the two do different jobs and can be used together.

**How is this different from the other Google Drive connection?**

This connection is about acting on your Drive: the assistant carries out file and folder operations for you, plus keyword search. The [Google Drive sync connection](https://fabric.so/marketplace/connections/google-drive/x52cHqan) is about content: it syncs your files into Fabric so they're readable and searchable by meaning alongside the rest of your library. One manages your Drive; the other brings its content in. You can add both.

**Does it change or delete my files without asking?**

No. Nothing destructive happens without your confirmation. The assistant proposes and, once you approve, carries out the action; day-to-day finding and creating don't touch anything you didn't ask it to.

**Is my Google Drive data secure?**

Everything in Fabric is encrypted in transit and at rest. The connection acts on your Drive with your authorisation, and you control what it does. The details are in the [privacy and security guide](https://fabric.so/features/private-and-secure) and Fabric's [privacy commitment](https://fabric.so/info/privacy).

**Does this work through MCP or the API?**

Fabric exposes your library and connected tools to external AI through its [MCP server](https://fabric.so/features/mcp) and [API](https://fabric.so/features/api) as well; this connection is the built-in way to have Fabric's own assistant act on your Drive.

**Does Fabric work with other tools alongside Google Drive?**

Yes. Google Drive is one of many [connections](https://fabric.so/features/connections). You can also connect [Notion](https://fabric.so/marketplace/connections/notion/S7HtdFtL), [Dropbox](https://fabric.so/marketplace/connections/dropbox/ozUGYV4C), and [Gmail](https://fabric.so/marketplace/connections/gmail/5zZcTVqZ), and automate across many apps with [Zapier](https://fabric.so/marketplace/connections/zapier/6PbgsvZS).

Google Drive

Find, organize, share, and manage files across your Dropbox.

_Powered by Zapier._

### What is Dropbox?

Dropbox is where files accumulate: projects, client work, shared folders, years of uploads. Keeping it useful is steady work, finding the right version in a growing library, moving things to the right folder, sharing with the right permissions, tidying up what's stale. This connection lets Fabric's assistant handle that for you, in plain language.

### What Fabric's assistant can do with Dropbox

Once your Dropbox is connected, Fabric's [AI assistant](https://fabric.so/features/ai-assistant) can act on your files from plain-language requests.

**Find and read.** Search files and folders, search inside file contents, find shared links, and list what's in a folder, so you can locate what you need without browsing through Dropbox.

**Manage files and folders.** Create, copy, move, rename, and delete files, upload files, create and append to text files, create and delete folders, and add members to folders, so the file management that eats your time becomes something you ask for.

**Share and control access.** Create shared links and file requests, set download permissions, add or remove passwords and expiration dates, and control visibility and access, so sharing a file with the right settings is one sentence instead of a settings panel.

You describe what you want and the assistant maps it to the right Dropbox action or trigger.

### You stay in control

The assistant acts only when you ask. For anything consequential, deleting a file or folder, moving files, changing shared link permissions, it confirms with you before going ahead, unless you've told it not to for a particular task. Finding, searching, and listing never change anything in your Dropbox.

When file management is a recurring job, you can set up a [Fabric AI job](https://fabric.so/features/agents) that runs on a schedule, responding when new files arrive in a folder, organizing uploads, tidying shared links, so the routine upkeep runs itself while you keep approval over anything that deletes or moves.

### Search your Dropbox from Fabric

Alongside the assistant, connecting Dropbox adds keyword search over your files from Fabric's main search, so a document, folder, or shared file is findable by matching text in the same place you search the rest of your library, rather than searching Dropbox separately.

### How people use it

**Freelancers and consultants** share deliverables by asking the assistant to create a shared link with a password and expiration, and collect files from clients with file requests, rather than managing Dropbox's sharing UI each time. It fits how Fabric works for [freelancers](https://fabric.so/for/freelancers) and [consultants](https://fabric.so/for/consultants).

**Creative teams** organize assets across folders, control who can download what, and keep shared links current by asking, so the file logistics around a project take less attention. It fits how Fabric works for [designers](https://fabric.so/for/designers) and [content creators](https://fabric.so/for/content-creators).

**Founders and small teams** have the assistant find files across a growing Dropbox, move things into the right structure, and share folders with the right people, keeping the filing tidy as the company scales. It fits how Fabric works for [founders](https://fabric.so/for/founders).

**People with recurring file workflows** set up a scheduled [AI job](https://fabric.so/features/agents) to handle it, for example organizing files as they arrive or cleaning up expired shared links, while keeping approval over anything destructive.

### Frequently asked questions

**What does the Dropbox connection do?**

It lets Fabric's [AI assistant](https://fabric.so/features/ai-assistant) manage your Dropbox, taking actions like finding files, creating and organizing folders, sharing files with controlled permissions, and creating file requests. It also adds keyword search over your Dropbox in Fabric.

**What can the assistant do in Dropbox?**

It can search files and folders (including inside file contents), list folder contents, find shared links, create, copy, move, rename, and delete files, create and delete folders, upload files, create and append to text files, add folder members, create shared links and file requests, and control shared link permissions, passwords, expiration, and visibility. You ask in plain language rather than choosing from a fixed list.

**Does the assistant change my files on its own?**

No. It acts only when you ask, and for consequential actions, deleting files or folders, moving files, changing shared link settings, it confirms with you first, unless you've deliberately told it not to for a specific task. Searching, finding, and listing change nothing.

**Can it search inside files, not just by name?**

Yes. It can search by file content as well as by file and folder name, so you can find a document by what it says rather than what you called it.

**Can I automate file organization?**

Yes. A [Fabric AI job](https://fabric.so/features/agents) can run on a schedule, for example organizing new uploads into the right folders or tidying shared links, while you keep approval over anything destructive.

**Can I search my Dropbox from Fabric?**

Yes, by keyword, from Fabric's main search, so a file is findable by matching text alongside the rest of your library.

**How is this different from the Google Drive connection?**

Both connect a cloud file store to Fabric. The capabilities differ because the tools differ: Dropbox has shared link controls, file requests, and its own folder model; Google Drive has Docs, Sheets, and Slides with their own editing and sharing. Choose whichever your files live in, or connect both.

**Can it manage how I share files?**

Yes. It can create shared links, set passwords and expiration dates, control download permissions, and set visibility and access, so the sharing settings on a file or folder are something you describe rather than configure by hand.

**Will it delete files without asking?**

No. Nothing that deletes or moves files happens without your confirmation, unless you've chosen to let a specific task run without it.

**Is my Dropbox data secure?**

Everything in Fabric is encrypted in transit and at rest. The connection acts on your Dropbox with your authorisation, and you control what it does. The details are in the [privacy and security guide](https://fabric.so/features/private-and-secure) and Fabric's [privacy commitment](https://fabric.so/info/privacy).

**Does this work through MCP or the API?**

Fabric also exposes your library and connected tools to external AI through its [MCP server](https://fabric.so/features/mcp) and [API](https://fabric.so/features/api); this connection is the built-in way to have Fabric's own assistant work with your Dropbox.

**Does Fabric work with other tools alongside Dropbox?**

Yes. Dropbox is one of many [connections](https://fabric.so/features/connections). You can also connect [Notion](https://fabric.so/marketplace/connections/notion/S7HtdFtL), [Google Drive](https://fabric.so/marketplace/connections/google-drive/x52cHqan), and [Gmail](https://fabric.so/marketplace/connections/gmail/5zZcTVqZ), and automate across many apps with [Zapier](https://fabric.so/marketplace/connections/zapier/6PbgsvZS).
