Add, update, and find rows, and manage worksheets in Excel.
Powered by Zapier.
Microsoft Excel is Microsoft's spreadsheet app, and Excel for the web keeps workbooks in OneDrive and SharePoint. Teams use it for trackers, budgets, logs and reports. Keeping a workbook current means a steady stream of manual entry, and getting a number out of one means remembering which file and which sheet. This connection lets Fabric's assistant read and update your workbooks for you, in plain language.
Once Excel is connected, Fabric's AI assistant can work in your workbooks from a simple request.
Find and read data. Find Row, Get Row by ID and Get Cells in Range pull the rows and ranges you need, and Find Worksheet(s) and Get Worksheet by ID locate the right sheet. Ask what this month's total is in the budget workbook and you get the figure without opening the file.
Add and update rows. Add Row, Add Row(s) and Add Row to Table append data, Update Row changes an existing row, and Find or Create Row checks for a match before adding one. Logging an expense, a lead or a result becomes something you ask for instead of type.
Build and tidy workbooks. Create Workbook, Create Worksheet, Find or Create Worksheet and Rename Worksheet set up structure. Clear Cells by Range, Clear Column by Index, Clear Row by ID, Delete Spreadsheet Row by ID and Delete Worksheet clean up. API Request (Beta) reaches the Microsoft Graph Excel API for anything else.
The assistant works from your instructions. For anything that removes or overwrites data, such as clearing a range or deleting rows or sheets, it confirms with you before going ahead, unless you've told it not to for a particular task. Reading data never changes your workbooks.
When a job should run regularly, a Fabric AI job can run on a schedule, such as appending a weekly summary row. The connection also includes events, such as New Row, New Row in Table, Updated Row and New Worksheet, which can start an automation.
Connecting Excel also adds keyword search over your workbooks from Fabric's main search, so a sheet is findable alongside the rest of your library. Fabric can also help you search across all your spreadsheets.
Finance and operations teams add rows to trackers and pull totals by asking, rather than opening the workbook.
Analysts create a new worksheet for each month and fill in the first rows from their notes.
Teams that report in Excel update a status row after each meeting.
Anyone who works with spreadsheets can ask questions about a spreadsheet instead of hunting for the cell.
What does the Microsoft Excel connection do?
It lets Fabric's assistant find, read, add, update, clear and delete rows and ranges, and create, rename and delete worksheets and workbooks, and it adds keyword search over your workbooks in Fabric.
Can I add rows to Excel with AI?
Yes. Tell the assistant what to add and Add Row, Add Row(s) or Add Row to Table appends it.
Can it read values from a workbook?
Yes. Get Cells in Range, Find Row and Get Row by ID read the data you ask about.
Does it work with Excel tables?
Yes. Add Row to Table adds a row to a named table.

No. Clearing ranges and deleting rows or sheets need your confirmation, unless you've told it not to for a specific task.
Does it work with files on my computer?
It works with workbooks stored in OneDrive or SharePoint, which Excel for the web uses.
Is my Excel data secure?
Everything in Fabric is encrypted in transit and at rest, and the connection acts on your workbooks with your authorization. See the privacy and security guide.
Does this work through MCP or the API?
Fabric also exposes your library and connected tools to external AI through its MCP server and API.
Does Fabric work with other spreadsheet tools?
Yes. You can also connect Google Sheets, Airtable and Microsoft Outlook.
Fabric is an AI workspace for your projects, ideas, and files.
