What is Databricks?

Databricks is a data and AI platform built around the lakehouse, used by data teams for analytics, data engineering and machine learning. Genie lets people ask questions of their data in plain language. This connection lets Fabric's assistant query your data and run jobs, in plain language.

What Fabric's assistant can do with Databricks

Once Databricks is connected, Fabric's AI assistant can work with Databricks from a simple request.

Ask Genie. Ask Genie a Question and Ask Genie Follow-Up Question get answers from a Genie space. Ask how revenue changed by region last quarter.

Query data. Query SQL Warehouse runs SQL, and the assistant can query online tables, serving endpoints and vector search indexes, and find tables.

Run jobs and pipelines. Trigger Job and Trigger Pipeline start work you have already set up in Databricks.

You stay in control

The assistant works from your instructions, and it confirms with you before triggering jobs or pipelines, unless you've told it not to for a particular task. Queries run with your account's permissions and use your Databricks compute.

When a job should run regularly, a Fabric AI job can run on a schedule, such as a Monday summary of key metrics written to a note.

Connecting Databricks also adds keyword search over its records from Fabric's main search.
