Howie
Howie takes a different approach to scheduling. Instead of sending someone a link, you CC Howie on an email thread, and it handles the back-and-forth. It reads the conversation, checks your Google Calendar, proposes times in the other person's time zone, and sends the invite once everyone agrees. You can also reach it over SMS and iMessage.
The product is built by 3030 Labs, a Seattle startup that raised a $6M seed round and launched publicly in September 2025. At launch, the company reported over 1,000 paying customers.
Configuration happens through a plain-language preferences document where you describe your scheduling rules: preferred meeting lengths, which video platform to use for different call types, buffer times between meetings, and similar details. Howie also handles calendar upkeep like focus blocks, travel time, conflict flags, daily briefings, and to-do reminders.
One notable add-on is white-labeling for $20/month. This lets you name the assistant whatever you want and give it an email address on your company's domain, so it looks like you have a dedicated human scheduler.
Howie moved to a credit-based pricing model in April 2026, replacing its earlier fixed plans ($35/mo Basic, $145/mo Pro). The current Team plan offers shared credits across a workspace with no per-seat charge, starting at $25/month for 1,250 credits and scaling up to $2,500/month for 150,000 credits. Enterprise pricing is custom. The main caveat with credit pricing is that Howie does not publish how many credits each action consumes, so forecasting costs before the trial credits run out can be difficult.
The biggest limitation is calendar support. Howie works exclusively with Google Calendar and Gmail. If your organization runs on Microsoft 365 or Outlook, Howie is not an option today. It is also focused purely on scheduling: no inbox triage, no general email drafting, and no cross-app automations beyond the integrations it lists (Zoom, Notion, Todoist, Linear, and a handful of others).
Calendly
Calendly is the most widely recognized name in scheduling software, and for good reason. It pioneered the booking link model that has become standard across sales, recruiting, customer success, and professional services. You create event types, set your availability, and share a link. The person on the other end picks a time that works, and the meeting appears on both calendars.
The free plan gives you one event type connected to one calendar, which is enough for basic one-on-one scheduling. The Standard plan at $10/seat/month unlocks unlimited event types, multiple calendar connections, automated reminders, and payment collection through Stripe or PayPal. The Teams plan at $16/seat/month adds round-robin scheduling, lead routing, CRM integrations with Salesforce and HubSpot, and centrally managed event types. Enterprise starts at $15,000/year with a 50-seat minimum and includes SSO, SAML, audit logs, and dedicated onboarding.
Calendly recently introduced two AI-powered add-ons. Notetaker joins meetings to record, transcribe, and summarize conversations. Callie, still in beta, is an AI assistant that can schedule meetings over email, which puts it in direct competition with Howie's core workflow. Both add-ons are available on Standard plans and above.
Where Calendly falls short depends on what you need. The per-seat pricing adds up quickly for larger teams, and every user who connects a calendar needs a paid seat, including managers who rarely host meetings. The free plan's single event type is restrictive enough that most active users will need to upgrade. Workflow automations consume credits from a monthly pool, and at three to four credits per booking, high-volume teams may find themselves watching usage carefully.
Calendly supports Google Calendar, Outlook, and iCloud, which gives it a significant edge over Google-only tools. Its integration ecosystem is also deeper on the CRM and marketing automation side, with native connections to Salesforce, HubSpot, Marketo, and Pardot.
How to choose
The decision comes down to how you prefer to schedule meetings.
If you spend most of your scheduling time in email threads, coordinating times with people who may not use any scheduling tool themselves, Howie fits that workflow naturally. You CC it, it handles the negotiation, and the meeting gets booked without anyone clicking a link. This works well for founders, investors, and executives whose meetings are arranged through personal introductions and email conversations. The trade-off is Google-only calendar support and usage-based pricing that can be hard to predict.
If you need a booking page that handles inbound scheduling at scale, Calendly is the more mature and versatile option. Sales teams can route leads, support teams can offer appointment types, and the booking link model works for anyone who regularly schedules with people outside their organization. The ecosystem of integrations, particularly on the CRM side, makes Calendly a better fit for revenue teams that need scheduling data flowing into Salesforce or HubSpot.
For teams that do both, it is worth noting that Calendly's Callie add-on is bringing AI email scheduling into the Calendly platform. If Callie matures beyond beta, Calendly could offer both models in a single product. For now, Howie's email scheduling is more polished and further along.
Cost is another factor. A solo user on Howie's lowest credit tier pays $25/month. A solo user on Calendly Standard pays $10/month. For teams, Howie's shared credit pool with no per-seat charge could be cheaper or more expensive than Calendly's per-seat model depending on meeting volume. Running the numbers with realistic usage estimates before committing is worth the time.
Where Fabric fits
Neither Howie nor Calendly operates in isolation. Meetings generate context: notes, follow-ups, related documents, and threads across multiple apps. Fabric is a personal cloud and context layer that connects 30+ apps, including Google Calendar, Gmail, and Slack, into a single searchable workspace.
Fabric's AI search finds meetings, notes, and files by meaning rather than keyword, so retrieving the context around a scheduled meeting takes seconds rather than digging through multiple apps. The AI assistant draws on four model families (Gemini, Claude, Grok, and OpenAI) to answer questions, draft follow-ups, and summarize meeting notes using your connected data.
Fabric offers a free tier, with paid plans at $8/month (billed annually) or $10/month (billed monthly). Paid plans include tree planting through Fabric's environmental program. Whichever scheduling tool you choose, Fabric keeps the surrounding context organized and searchable.
FAQs
Is Howie free?
Howie gives new users $25 in free credits to try the service, but there is no ongoing free plan. Once the credits run out, you need a paid Team plan starting at $25/month.
Is Calendly free?
Yes. Calendly offers a permanent free plan with one active event type, one calendar connection, and basic one-on-one scheduling. It is enough for light use but most regular users will want the Standard plan for unlimited event types and reminders.
Is Fabric free?
Yes. Fabric has a free tier that includes core features. Paid plans start at $8/month (billed annually) or $10/month (billed monthly) and unlock additional AI capabilities and app connections.
Does Howie work with Outlook?
No. Howie currently supports Google Calendar and Gmail only. There is no Microsoft 365 or Outlook integration available.
Can Calendly schedule meetings over email?
Calendly has introduced Callie, a beta AI assistant that can handle email-based scheduling. This feature is available as an add-on for Standard plans and above, though it is still in early stages compared to Howie's core email scheduling.
How does Howie's credit pricing work?
Howie uses a shared credit pool model where your team purchases a monthly credit allocation (from 1,250 to 150,000 credits). Each scheduling action consumes credits, but Howie does not publicly document how many credits specific actions cost, which makes forecasting monthly spend difficult until you have a few months of usage data.
What integrations does Calendly support?
Calendly integrates with Google Calendar, Outlook, iCloud, Zoom, HubSpot, Salesforce, Mailchimp, Marketo, Pardot, Stripe, and PayPal, among others. CRM integrations require the Teams plan ($16/seat/month) or higher.
Can I white-label Howie?
Yes. For an additional $20/month, Howie lets you choose a custom name for the assistant and assign it an email address on your own company domain. This makes it appear as though you have a dedicated human scheduling assistant.
Which is better for a solo founder?
It depends on how you schedule. If most of your meetings come through email introductions and you want someone to handle the back-and-forth, Howie's email-first approach works well. If you want a simple booking link to share on your website or in your email signature, Calendly's free plan is a practical starting point. Many founders use both.
Does Calendly charge per seat?
Yes. Every user who connects a calendar or hosts meetings needs a paid seat on Calendly. There is no free admin-only role, so managers and coordinators who oversee scheduling without hosting meetings still require a full seat at the same price.
