What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is OpenAI's AI assistant, and the OpenAI API offers the same company's models for text, images, video, speech and embeddings to other apps. This connection lets Fabric's assistant use your OpenAI account for work that needs OpenAI's own models, such as generating images and video, transcribing audio and producing speech, with the results coming back into your Fabric workspace.

What Fabric's assistant can do with ChatGPT (OpenAI)

Once your OpenAI account is connected, Fabric's AI assistant can call OpenAI's tools from a simple request.

Make images, video and audio. Generate An Image creates an image from a description and Create Image Edit changes one you provide. Create Video produces a video from a prompt and Get Video retrieves it when it is ready. Convert Text to Speech turns a script or note into spoken audio.

Turn recordings into text. Create Transcription converts audio into text and Create Translation translates spoken audio into English text. Fabric also has its own audio and video transcription, so this is most useful when you specifically want OpenAI's models or account to do the job.

Run OpenAI models on your text and images. Send Prompt and Conversation send a prompt to the OpenAI model you choose. Analyze Text and Analyze Images run a model over text or images with your instructions, Extract Structured Data pulls fields such as names, dates and amounts out of unstructured text, and Write an Email drafts an email. Ask Questions (Beta) answers questions with a model, and Check Moderations screens text against OpenAI's moderation categories.

Work with OpenAI files, responses and embeddings. Find File and Find or Create File manage files in your OpenAI account, Find Response and Find Conversation retrieve earlier results, and Create Embedding and Search Embeddings create and search vector embeddings. The assistant works from your instructions, and requests run on the OpenAI account you connect, so OpenAI bills that account under its API pricing. Before anything that creates a large or costly job, such as a video, it confirms with you, unless you've told it not to for a particular task.
