What is Google Calendar?

Google Calendar is where a lot of people's time lives, meetings, events, reminders, across one or several calendars. Keeping it in order is constant small work: finding a free slot, creating events, adding and removing attendees, moving things around, checking who's busy when. This connection hands that to Fabric's assistant: you ask, and it does it.

What Fabric's assistant can do with Google Calendar

Once your Google Calendar is connected, Fabric's AI assistant can act on your calendar from plain-language requests.

Find events and free time. Find events, retrieve one by ID, find busy periods across a calendar, find your calendars, and get calendar information, so working out when you're free, or when something is, doesn't mean scanning the grid.

Create and schedule. Create events, create detailed events, quick-add an event from a line of text, and find-or-create an event, so putting something on the calendar becomes a sentence rather than a form.

Manage what's there. Update events, add and remove attendees, move an event to another calendar, delete events, and create calendars, so rearranging your schedule can be handed off.

You describe what you want and the assistant maps it to the right calendar action.

You stay in control

The assistant acts only when you ask. For anything consequential, deleting an event, removing attendees, moving something to another calendar, it confirms with you before going ahead, unless you've told it not to for a particular task. Finding events and checking free time never change anything.

When something should happen regularly, you can set up a Fabric AI job that runs on a schedule, adding attendees to recurring events, creating events from another source, tidying your calendar, so the routine parts run themselves while you keep approval over anything that removes or moves.

Search your calendar from Fabric

Alongside the assistant, connecting Google Calendar adds keyword search over your events from Fabric's main search, so a meeting or event is findable by matching text in the same place you search the rest of your library, rather than searching the calendar separately.

How people use it

Anyone juggling a full calendar has the assistant find slots, create and update events, and manage attendees by asking, rather than clicking through the week.

People scheduling with others use find-busy-periods to work out when everyone's free, then create the event in one step.

Teams let calendar activity trigger follow-on actions, so an event starting, ending, or changing can set something else in motion.

People with recurring scheduling work set up a scheduled AI job to handle it, while keeping approval over anything that removes or moves events.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Google Calendar connection do?

It lets Fabric's AI assistant manage your Google Calendar, taking actions like finding free slots, creating and updating events, managing attendees, and moving or deleting events. It also adds keyword search over your events in Fabric.

What can the assistant do in Google Calendar?

It can find events, retrieve by ID, find busy periods and calendars, get calendar information, create events and detailed events, quick-add, add and remove attendees, update events, move events between calendars, delete events, and create calendars. You ask in plain language rather than choosing from a fixed list.

Can it find a free slot for me?

Yes. It can find busy periods across your calendar, so you can ask when you're free, or when a group is, and then create the event in the same step.

Does the assistant change my calendar on its own?

No. It acts only when you ask, and for consequential actions, deleting events, removing attendees, moving things, it confirms with you first, unless you've deliberately told it not to for a specific task. Finding events and checking free time change nothing.

Can I automate scheduling work?

Yes. A Fabric AI job can run on a schedule, for example adding attendees to recurring events or creating events from another source, while you keep approval over anything that removes or moves.

Can I search my calendar from Fabric?

Yes, by keyword, from Fabric's main search, so an event is findable by matching text alongside the rest of your library.

How does this relate to the Outlook connection?

The Outlook connection manages calendar alongside email and contacts, for people whose work lives in Outlook. This connection is Google Calendar on its own, for people whose scheduling lives there. Both let the assistant manage your calendar; choose the one your calendar is in.

Will it delete events or remove attendees without asking?

No. Nothing that removes or moves events happens without your confirmation, unless you've chosen to let a specific task run without it.

Is my calendar data secure?

Everything in Fabric is encrypted in transit and at rest. The connection acts on your calendar with your authorisation, and you control what it does. The details are in the privacy and security guide and Fabric's privacy commitment.

Does Fabric work with other tools alongside Google Calendar?

Yes. Google Calendar is one of many connections. You can also connect Notion, Google Drive, and Gmail, and automate across many apps with Zapier.
