The idea of Smart Notes has its roots in the German sociologist Niklas Luhmann (1927-1998). Zettel means «cards» in German, and Zettelkasten means «box of cards».
Three main types of smart notes:
Fleeting Notes: random ideas, thoughts & information that usually come in unstructured and unorganised way.
Literature Notes: summary & comments on a consumed info (usually from fleeting notes).
Permanent Notes: individual ideas & insights that can be made even without immediate context with other background information.
