# AI usage Source: https://fabric.so/guide/AI-and-assistant/AI-usage How AI usage works in Fabric. Screenshot2026 02 26at12 09 18 ## What uses AI in Fabric? When you use Fabric, certain actions require AI processing, analysis, or response. The more tokens, the more AI usage consumed. Chatting with the AI Assistant is the most obvious example, but creating a new file/note also uses some AI to understand the content, make it searchable and more. **The size and type of an Assistant query also directly affects the amount of AI used:** * If it's a long document or media file. * If the query requires the Assistant fetching and analyzing lots of files/items. * If the query requires the Assistant to make many tool calls (e.g. multiple web searches). * If the query requires reasoning. **Note:** Connections may create many items inside your Fabric on your behalf – this is a common drain on AI usage, and being selective in what gets synced will make a big difference. E.g. if you connect a Google Drive with 10k files... that's **a lot** of AI analysis and processing that needs to happen. ***Things that use a very very small amount of AI:*** * Automatic renaming * Performing a search * Generating tag and location suggestions *** It's also noteworthy that different models do consume more or less AI usage than others. You can see a comparison of this on the [Choosing a model page](/guide/AI-and-assistant/choosing-a-model) *** ## When does my AI usage reset? Your AI usage resets on the 1 month anniversary of the paid plan subscription (or your account creation date, if on a free plan). You can always see how many days are left until next reset inside your Account screen. *** ## Topping up On your [Usage](https://fabric.so/settings/usage-and-billing) screen or the [Plans](https://fabric.so/pricing) page, you can see options for topping up your AI usage. You can choose to top up just this one time, or for it to happen automatically when your AI usage quota falls under a certain percentage. # AI Assistant basics Source: https://fabric.so/guide/AI-and-assistant/basics The fundamentals of Fabric's AI Assistant ## Accessing the assistant The assistant is accessible from any space, folder, item, or other major Fabric app screen (except settings). The face icon represents Fabric Assistant – clicking it in this floating bar will open it. Screenshot2026 02 25at23 03 01 **Where** you open the Assistant will set it's context (or scope) to the most relevant topic. For example, opening the Assistant in a folder will set its context to that folder, to try to provide more relevant contextual answers about it. [Learn more about Assistant context here](/guide/AI-and-assistant/setting-context) *** ## Assistant can help or even do work for you You can ask Fabric Assistant to move files for you, add tags, rename files, create notes, edit notes, create tasks, and much more. When you ask Assistant to perform an action that modifies or deletes something, it will show you what it plans to do, and ask you to approve the action. That way, it ensures that you get the outcome you want. When it asks for approval, it will show the following buttons: Screenshot2026 02 25at23 40 05 When you ask Assistant to modify a text document for you, it will show you all the additions (green) and removals (red) in the document, and you can choose to apply individual changes, or all of them in one go. *** ## Creating a new chat To create a new chat at any point, just click \[New chat]. Your previous chat and all before it are available in your chat history. *** ## Chat history Just click the button to see your chat history. Inside your chat history you can: * Pick and resume a past chat at any point, or review the conversation. You can start a new chat at any time, saving the previous to your history. * Pin a chat to the top, making it easily accessible for later. * Chats automatically get named, but inside the chat history you can manually name them if needed. * All chats in the history are searchable by the chat's name. V Put66j9dmm83wd Qqv6jy En Dr Ag # Choosing a model Source: https://fabric.so/guide/AI-and-assistant/choosing-a-model About the different AI models available inside Fabric. **Please note:** Model choice is only available on Pro and Team plans. [Click here to upgrade](https://fabric.so/pricing). Fabric brings you all the latest models – you don't need to have multiple subscriptions, or to be constantly chasing the frontier of AI capability. A single Fabric subscription gives you all the latest in one place, along with the ability to freely change between them at any point. *** ## Choosing a model On Pro and Team plans, you can choose other AI models, some which have greater strengths than others, different speeds, or different writing styles and tone of voice. This is mostly a personal preference and depends on the task that you are trying to get done. Some models are much larger and 'deeper thinkers' – but these also typically consume more tokens and cost more to use. *** ## Do different models use different amount of AI usage? | List of available models | Comparative model cost | | :----------------------- | :--------------------- | | gemini-3-flash | ● ○ ○ ○ ○ | | claude-haiku-4-5 | ● ○ ○ ○ ○ | | gpt-5.1 | ● ● ○ ○ ○ | | gpt-5.2 | ● ● ○ ○ ○ | | claude-sonnet-4-6 | ● ● ● ○ ○ | | grok-4 | ● ● ● ○ ○ | | gemini-3-pro | ● ● ● ○ ○ | | claude-opus-4-6 | ● ● ● ● ● | # Email your Assistant Source: https://fabric.so/guide/AI-and-assistant/email-your-Fabric Your Fabric AI Assistant, available via email. Fabric Assistant can respond directly to you via email! Every Fabric account gets a dedicated Fabric email address that only you (or address that you approve can send to). It's 100% yours. *** ## What can my Fabric Email Assistant do? **Questions and tasks** Send an email to your Email-to-Fabric address, and your Fabric Assistant will perform work or research for you, just like it does in the app. > For example: `what's the weather in london today?` > > Or: `what was that PDF about the art exhibit?` **Forwarding an email** You can also forward an email to it and Assistant will save it, and can answer follow-up questions about the current email conversation. > For example: `what do you think they meant by this?` > > Or: `can you summarize this email?` **Attachments** If you send a file as an attachment, Assistant will save it and can answer any question you may have about it. > For example: `what are the key ideas in this PDF?` *** You can continue the conversation in the Fabric app – the chat will show in your chat history. *** ## Setting approved email addresses Assistant only accepts emails from addresses that you approve and verify ownership of. You can approve multiple email addresses in your Settings. Emails sent to your Fabric address automatically get saved to your Fabric (and converted to the most relevant type of file). Q C6nz5psdo Cv VH Qrl Wnrz Qe7c *** ## Don't want the Email Assistant? You can simply turn it off in the `Email or text your Fabric` tab of Settings. Just flip the `Accept incoming emails` toggle to the **off** position. *** ## Not receiving emails in your Fabric? One of the most common reasons for emails not reaching Fabric is a failed security check. We use DMARC protocol to check that incoming emails are sent from the domain they claim to be from. In most cases, if you have an email address from a large provider, ending with @[gmail.com](http://gmail.com), @[outlook.com](http://outlook.com), or @[yahoo.com](http://yahoo.com), DMARC is already configured and handled for you — you don't need to do anything. However, if you send emails from your own custom domain (e.g. @[yourcompany.com](http://yourcompany.com)), you or your IT team will need to ensure DMARC is properly set up in your domain's DNS settings, otherwise your emails may get rejected. **Why so strict?** We have a strict email DMARC check to avoid anyone spoofing your email, keeping your Fabric content extremely private and secure. If you're using Google Workspace, they provide a guide for setting up DMARC. [You can read that here](https://knowledge.workspace.google.com/admin/security/set-up-dmarc). Basically, you need to add three small configuration records to your domain's DNS settings: * SPF — a list of servers that are allowed to send email on behalf of your domain. * DKIM — a secret signature that gets added to every email you send, proving it hasn't been tampered with. * DMARC — the rule that tells other mail servers what to do if the above two checks fail. You can use one of the many free online tools to check your current DMARC status. # Memory Source: https://fabric.so/guide/AI-and-assistant/memory Fabric Assistant remembers what is important to you. **Please note:** Memory is only available on paid plans. [Click here to upgrade](https://fabric.so/pricing). Memory Feature Visual C ## What is Fabric Memory? Fabric Assistant will create memories when you ask it to, or when you say something that is likely to help in the future. This means the assistant is a smarter helper that becomes more tailored to you and understands you better over time. And you can even ask it to forget things if a particular memory isn't helpful! # Setting context Source: https://fabric.so/guide/AI-and-assistant/setting-context How to attach custom context to Fabric's AI Assistant, and how to manage it after. ## Setting an item as context To set an individual item as context, just right-click it, or select the item with `Ctrl`+click. You can then choose to `Add to Assistant context` which adds it to whatever is the current context – you can add multiple things progressively in this way. Or you can choose `Ask about item` and the item becomes the only thing in the Assistant's context. Good if you want to have a focused discussion. If you activate the Assistant when an item is opened, it is immediately available to the Assistant context (or is likely even already set). If so, you can click the toggle to add/exclude from current context. *** ## Setting a selection as context When you select multiple items in Fabric (by dragging, or holding `Cmd` /`Ctrl` and clicking), the floating bar will offer options for adding the selection to the Assistant context, or you can also access the `Ask AI` options by right-clicking any of your selected items. *** ## Setting a folder or space as context When you're in a space or folder and you open the Assistant, that current space/folder will be available to the Assistant context, and automatically applied if there is no active chat yet. You can always toggle the folder/space's inclusion in the context. *** ## Setting highlighted text as context Inside Fabric's text editor, you can select text and then send it directly to the Assistant, setting it as context, adding it to the existing context, or summarizing the highlighted text. Screenshot2026 02 26at00 03 44 *** ## Managing context Inside the Assistant, you can see any context attached at the present moment by clicking the grey button in the top left. If there is no grey button, no context is currently set. For context that comes from the folder or item you currently have open, you can toggle its inclusion with the toggle button. For anything else (e.g. that you manually attached to the context), you can hover and click the on the right to remove it. Screenshot2026 02 25at23 58 37 # Assistant web search Source: https://fabric.so/guide/AI-and-assistant/web-search Your Fabric Assistant can search and research for you. **Please note:** Assistant Web Search is only available on Pro and Team plans. [Click here to upgrade](https://fabric.so/pricing). Fabric Assistant can search the web for you – just ask it to check something, and it'll be able to fetch and analyze results from the web on your behalf. This means that your queries are always up-to-date with the latest data, and combine the best of your Fabric filesystem and content on the web. *** ## How to get Assistant to search the web For obvious queries – searching the web happens automatically, where Assistant knows that the information is likely not inside your Fabric. * For example, the query: `"what is the weather in madrid today?"` In other cases, it may be less obvious to Assistant, so you can simply ask it to search the web, and it will do so for you. # API setup Source: https://fabric.so/guide/ai-tools/API-setup Control your Fabric from your terminal or your own apps. ## What does the Fabric API let me do? * Control your Fabric account, add, edit, move, tag, delete content and more. Almost all Fabric capabilities are exposed via the API. * Build apps that use a Fabric workspace as intelligent storage and a backend. *** ## Who can use the API? Pro and Team plans both have access to use the Fabric API. On a Team plan, the admin/owner may need to grant permission to you. *** ## How do I use the API in my workspace? * Go to your [Settings > API keys](https://fabric.so/settings/api-keys) in the workspace you want to control via API. * Give it a name. * Make sure to save the key somewhere secure. For security reasons, you won't see it again. Remember to keep this key extremely private. You can read the API documentation here, with examples and references: [https://developers.fabric.so/guide/getting-started](https://developers.fabric.so/guide/getting-started) # Fabric CLI Source: https://fabric.so/guide/ai-tools/CLI-usage Fabric, from your terminal. Search your library and save to it without leaving the shell. ## What does the Fabric CLI let me do? * Control your Fabric account, add, edit, move, tag, delete content, tasks and more. Ask your Fabric AI assistant a question, or to do something – without leaving the terminal. Almost all Fabric capabilities are exposed via the CLI. * Allow an agent (e.g. Claude Code or OpenClaw) to use your Fabric or Fabric Memory. *** ## Who can use the CLI? The CLI is available on all plans. *** ## Where do I get the CLI? In your terminal, run: ```text theme={null} curl -fsSL https://fabric.so/cli/install.sh | sh ``` This will install the Fabric CLI. *** ## How can I use the CLI? Search, save, and manage your Fabric links and notes from Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, and other MCP-compatible tools. *** ## Overview Fabric's MCP server lets AI coding assistants and other tools access your saved links, files, and notes. It supports the standard [**<u>Model Context Protocol</u>**](https://modelcontextprotocol.io/) with OAuth authentication — just add the server URL and your tool handles the rest. *** ## Use Fabric directly from ChatGPT, Claude and other MCP-compatible tools. Fabric now has MCP support to perform the following actions: **Files, notes and workspace:** * Item search * Create a note * Create a bookmark * Create a folder * Edit a note * Delete an item * Get markdown body of a note * Move an item * Rename an item **Fabric Memory:** * Create memory * Edit memory * Delete memory * List memories * Manage memories * Search memories **Tagging:** * Create tags * Edit tags * Apply/remove tags * Search tags **Tasks:** * Create task * Edit task * Delete task * List all tasks *** ## Getting started Add this server URL to your MCP client: ```text theme={null} https://mcp.api.fabric.so/mcp ``` Most MCP clients support "remote" or "URL-based" servers. Add the URL above, and the client will handle OAuth authentication automatically — you'll be prompted to authorize through your browser the first time you connect. *** ## App setup ### Claude Code Run this command in your terminal: ```text theme={null} claude mcp add fabric --transport http https://mcp.api.fabric.so/mcp ``` Then restart Claude Code. You'll be prompted to authorize through your browser on first use. ### Claude Desktop Go to **Settings** → **Connectors** → **Add custom connector**. Enter a name for the connector, and the URL `https://mcp.api.fabric.so/mcp` and follow the OAuth prompts. ### Cursor Go to **Cursor Settings** → **MCP** → **Add new MCP Server**. Set the type to "URL" and enter `https://mcp.api.fabric.so/mcp`. ### Windsurf Follow Windsurf's MCP configuration guide. Add a new server with URL `https://mcp.api.fabric.so/mcp`. ### Codex Run this command in your terminal: ```text theme={null} codex mcp add fabric --url https://mcp.api.fabric.so/mcp ``` ### VS Code / Copilot Add to your MCP settings (`.vscode/mcp.json` or user settings): ```text theme={null} { "servers": { "fabric": { "type": "http", "url": "https://mcp.api.fabric.so/mcp" } } } ``` ### ChatGPT Go to **Settings** → **Connectors** → **Add Connector**. Enter the URL `https://mcp.api.fabric.so/mcp`, give it a name, and save. Then start a new conversation, click **More** → **Add Connectors**, and select Fabric. You'll be prompted to authorize on first use. ### Other MCP clients Any MCP client that supports remote/HTTP servers can connect. Use the server URL `https://mcp.api.fabric.so/mcp`. The client will discover the OAuth configuration automatically via the `.well-known/oauth-authorization-server` metadata endpoint. *** ## Available tools | **Tool** | **Description** | | :--------------------- | :-------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | fabric-create-bookmark | Create a bookmark in Fabric | | fabric-create-folder | Creates a Fabric folder | | fabric-create-memory | Creates a Fabric memory | | fabric-create-note | Creates a Fabric note | | fabric-create-task | Creates a Fabric task | | fabric-delete-item | Deletes a Fabric item (file, note, link, etc.) | | fabric-delete-task | Deletes a Fabric task | | fabric-edit-memory | Edits a Fabric memory object | | fabric-edit-notepad | Edits a Fabric note | | fabric-edit-task | Edits a Fabric task | | fabric-find-items | Search your saved links, files and notes by keyword and semantic similarity | | fabric-list-memories | Lists Fabric memories | | fabric-list-tasks | Lists Fabric tasks | | fabric-move-items | Moves Fabric items from one location to anther | | fabric-read-item | Reads contents of a Fabric item | | fabric-read-memory | Reads contents of a Fabric memory | | fabric-rename-item | Renames a Fabric item | | fabric-search-memories | Searches your Fabric memories | | fabric-search-tags | Searches your Fabric tags | *** ## Troubleshooting ### I'm having issues with authentication * Your authentication status should automatically renew, but if for some reason this fails, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the Fabric MCP server in the relevant service (for example, Claude). ### I'm having issues with creating items in Fabric * If you cannot create further items in Fabric, you may be out of Fabric storage or AI usage – you can check your quotas [here](https://fabric.so/settings/usage). Your quota renews based on your plan, and you can top-up any time, if you want. ### It's not finding something in my Fabric * If you can't find something, there are 2 likely causes: * It might still be being indexed for search, particularly if the content is large, or you have created/saved a large volume of content in a short period of time. Usually this process is very fast (fractions of a second), but if not yet, the best action is to wait. * You may have deleted that content. Deleted content (either in the bin, or permanently deleted) is not discoverable via search. If permanently deleted, the content no longer exists. # Browser extension Source: https://fabric.so/guide/apps-and-extensions/browser-extension Capture images, text or entire webpages in a single click, with our browser extension. <Card icon="browser" href="https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/fabric-web-clipper-%E2%80%93-save/dbbaiokglpdmdlgjakcfcmfalfhbjhjn" title="Get the Chrome extension"> Get Fabric in your browser </Card> *** <Frame> <img alt="Https Files Gitbook Com V0 B Gitbook X Prod Appspot Com O Spaces%2fc UC Iwj Lg Qe V Naawb43c X%2fuploads%2f Vkodnfxdy Znrqimfqn Iv%2fimage Png Alt=media&token=d3d190ea Bdf5 4421 B3bd 5e6dab38840a" /> </Frame> <Tip> **How to bookmark a website:** Simply press ⌥+D (or Alt+D on Windows) **or** Click the "Save URL to Fabric" option in the extension drop down **or** Right click anywhere in the page and choose "Add page to Fabric" </Tip> *** <Frame> <img alt="Https Files Gitbook Com V0 B Gitbook X Prod Appspot Com O Spaces%2fc UC Iwj Lg Qe V Naawb43c X%2fuploads%2fa2xw Zfbbt7x Npe Cx33s5%2fimage Png Alt=media&token=122e7bfa 3e5a 4eeb B6ba 62d1743bea7f" /> </Frame> <Tip> **Screenshot anything on the web:** Simply hold `⌘+⌥` (or `Ctrl+alt` on Windows) and drag. Every file, note, link etc. supports adding multiple comments to it, @mentioning others etc. # Canvas Source: https://fabric.so/guide/features/canvas An infinite canvas for brainstorming, organizing ideas, and connecting your thoughts - with all your Fabric content ready to use. <video /> ## What is Fabric Canvas? Fabric's canvas is a spatial whiteboard where you can add any Fabric content, organize it, draw around it, write, add post-its and more. You can even paste, drag or embed content directly to the canvas. If you paste a link, it'll turn into a Fabric bookmark that lives inside the canvas. *** ## Can I add the same file to multiple canvases? Yes, you can reference any file from your library on as many different canvases as you want - it's the same file shown in different visual layouts. *** ## What's the difference between embedded content and referenced content? Embedded content (like images you upload directly) lives on the canvas itself. Referenced content links to files in your library - if you delete the library file, it disappears from the canvas too. *** ## What's the difference between preview cards and interactive windows? Preview cards show a thumbnail of your file, while interactive windows let you actually work with the content (read PDFs, play videos, etc.) without leaving the canvas. <Tip> Interactive windows are coming soon. </Tip> *** ## Can collaborators see all the content on my canvas? If you reference library content as a preview, collaborators can only access it if they have permission to view that file. Embedded content is visible to everyone who can access the canvas. *** ## Can I draw on the canvas? Yes, you can draw freeform, add shapes, arrows, and annotations directly on the canvas. *** ## Do embedded videos and live content actually work on the canvas? Yes, all embeds are fully interactive - you can watch YouTube videos, edit Figma designs, play Spotify, and interact with any embedded content directly on the canvas. *** ## Can I share a canvas as read-only? Yes, share canvases with view-only access so others can see your work but can't edit or move anything. *** ## Can I organize my canvases into folders? Yes, canvases are files in Fabric - organize them in folders, tag them, and find them through search like any other content. *** ## How many people can collaborate on a canvas at once? Multiple team members can work on the same canvas simultaneously with real-time multiplayer cursors showing everyone's activity. *** ## Does canvas work on mobile? Canvas works best on desktop and tablet devices where you have more screen space for visual organization. # Explore Mode Source: https://fabric.so/guide/features/explore-mode Rediscover and explore your content in a totally new way. <video /> ## What is Explore Mode? * A visual explorer for all your content. You can: * Re-arrange the cards within a column. * Reorder the columns. * Rename a column. * Add content directly to any column. **Color labels** When you add a card to a column, you can also see that information in other views, as it will set a color label on the card. The same is true in reverse: add a color label to a card, and you'll see that card in the relevant color column if you switch to kanban view. *** ## How do I access kanban view? You can see kanban view inside any space by clicking on the view control (which is usually set to "Grid" by default), and choosing "Kanban" instead. [Click here to upgrade](https://fabric.so/pricing). </Tip> <img /> ## Search across all your apps and clouds If you've connected any external data connections (Google Drive, Dropbox, Gmail and more), then making a search in Fabric will also try to fetch results from these sources. * If a data connection is 'search-only', then the search will be keyword-based, using the data source's API. * If a data connection is a 'connected-source', then it's fully indexed by Fabric, and can be searched semantically (by meaning, and the contents of the file). *** ## How does Fabric's search work? * Just describe what you are looking for in your own words. * The more descriptive you can be, the more likely that the search will be able to match the ideas, concepts and themes in your search. * If you want an exact match, just wrap the query in quotes. For example: "research". This will only return results that specifically include that word. * Fabric's search combines multiple factors to improve relevance beyond just the query itself, so that your searches find what you are looking for, despite the huge volume of data. *** ## How to use AI similarity search * From any opened file inside Fabric, click the `⋮` (3 dots) button and click `Explore similar files`. * Fabric will use that file as the search query and find the closest matches to it. A new way to explore your data via similarity. *** ## Search by color * Use a color picker to find images, designs, and documents containing specific colors - perfect for brand consistency. * Just click the color wheel in the search overlay, and then paste in a Hex colour, or drag within the color picker. * Fabric will find the closest matching colored media for you. *** ## Reverse image search * Upload an image and Fabric will find similar images and content. Reverse image search for your library of content. * Just open the search view and click the <Icon icon="camera" /> camera icon to upload an image for the query. *** ## Media content search * Just ask Fabric Assistant and it will search the transcript of audio, video files, and YouTube, finding specific timeframes within the media for you to hop straight into. * Just click the timestamp to hop to that location in the media. * No more hunting around for specific scene. *** ## Search filters * A search doesn't need to include text, you can start just from file attributes, such as any tags, parent folders, or the kind of file that it is. * You can also apply these filters to any other type of query, narrowing the results down. *** ## Search UI controls You can customize Fabric's search view to your needs. **There are multiple view modes in search:** * Grid – shows a grid, ideal for most content * Masonry – shows vertical columns, ideal for image/visual content * Detailed – shows a list of deeper information with medium thumbnails * List – granular information with customizable columns of key information **Other:** * You can zoom in or out as needed, making it easier to evaluate the content you are looking for. * You can also toggle on and off visual attributes about grid or masonry cards, as well as whether the external search panel is visible. # Sync & backup Source: https://fabric.so/guide/features/sync-and-backup Your files, always with you. <Tip> **Please note:** Sync and Backup is only available on Pro and Team plans. Start on your laptop, continue on your phone, finish on your tablet. Your files follow you. * Connect external data sources (Google Drive, a folder on your computer), and they will have 2-way sync. Any changes you make update in all locations. Keep your important files backed up without cluttering your Fabric cloud. * Automatically back up photos, documents, and files from your phone or tablet. * Access your complete workspace whether you're at home, in the office, or on the go. *** ## How do I use it? * Go to `Connections` and choose to connect a data source like `Google Drive`, or `Local folder sync`. * For `Local folder sync`, you need to install it from the [desktop app](/guide/apps-and-extensions/desktop). This will create a folder on your computer called `Fabric`, located inside your User folder on the computer (the same level as Downloads, Desktop etc. usually are). Anything you add or remove from this folder (inside Fabric or on your computer) will be reflected in Fabric and on your computer. *** ## More than just search Backed-up content is fully available to you in Fabric: * Move, copy, delete, share – whatever you can do in Fabric, you can do with content synced from these sources. * Fabric Assistant understands your files and you can ask it questions or to make changes to them. * Everything can be found with [Smart Search](/guide/features/smart-search) – just describe that you are looking for, or search by color, and much more. # Tasks Source: https://fabric.so/guide/features/tasks Your tasks, connected to everything. <img /> ## What are tasks? * Fabric lets you create tasks in a dedicated view inside the Fabric app. * You can connect relevant files and folders, to maintain important context. * You can also set due dates, reminders, priorities, assignees and more. *** ## How to make a task * Simply go to the dedicated Tasks view, and click `Create task`. * You can then write a title and click (or press `Enter`) to submit it. * Task created! When a filter is active, the filter icon in the top will be strongly contrasted and have a badge showing the number of filters applied. You can also sort tasks in ascending or descending order by: * Created date * Due date * Priority * Title * Modified date # Exporting Source: https://fabric.so/guide/import-and-export/exporting How to export from Fabric. ## Exports overview You can export your entire workspace or a single folder — the folder structure is preserved as-is in the export. A few things get converted on the way out. * Notepads become HTML files, with any attached images or files placed in a companion folder named after the notepad with an assets suffix. * Bookmarks get consolidated into a single Bookmarks.html file, and Highlights similarly into a Highlights.html file. * Everything else (files, etc.) exports as-is with no conversion. What doesn't come with you: metadata, tags, and comments are not included in exports. Chats are not exported at all. Re-import is not currently supported — you can take your files and folders elsewhere, but you can't bring an export back into Fabric. *** ## How to export a folder or space Inside any folder, simply click the `⋮` (3 dots) button and choose `Export space content` (or `Export folder content`). We store as little data as possible. ## Is my data encrypted? * Fabric uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)/Transport Layer Security (TLS) to protect data in transit. * Fabric files are encrypted at rest using 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). * SSL/TSL creates a secure tunnel protected by 128-bit or higher Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption. *** ## Has Fabric's security been audited? Fabric has passed Google's CASA Tier 2 certification. *** ## Who can access non-shared files? Only you. *** ## Who can access shared files? Only those you invite via email, or who receive the access link from you. Only share an access link with those that you want to access your content. If the content is published with search engine indexing turned on, then it'll be discoverable via search engines. You are always able to turn this option or or off. *** ## Can I see who accessed my shared files? On Pro and Team plans: if you publish the link, you can see what locations and devices it was accessed on, and when. You can also create multiple publishing links and give each one a unique name – this means that you can give different links to different stakeholders/collaborators and see how they were interacted with. <Tip> **Please note:** Link analytics is only available on paid plans. [Click here to upgrade](https://fabric.so/pricing). </Tip> *** # Password protection Source: https://fabric.so/guide/privacy-and-security/password-protection Keep sensitive content secure when you share it. <Tip> **Please note:** Password protected content is only available on paid plans. It is not possible to see the password after setting – we recommend saving it into a password manager. *** ## Can I set different passwords for different folders? Yes, you can set a unique password for anything. *** ## Does the password work for all sharing methods? Yes – compatible with all sharing methods. *** ## What happens if I move a file out of a password-protected folder? Source: https://fabric.so/guide/what-is-oauth A quick guide to OAuth and how it works. <Frame> <img alt="Oauth Explained Visual" /> </Frame> # OAuth Explained Simply ### What is OAuth? OAuth is like a special key system that lets you give one website permission to access your information on another website, without sharing your password. *** ### How does it work? Imagine you're checking into a hotel. Instead of giving the hotel staff a copy of your house key (your password), you give them a special "valet key" that only works for what they need to do. With OAuth: 1. You click "Log in with Google" (or Facebook, etc.) on a website 2. Google asks, "Is it okay if this website sees your email address?" 3. You say yes 4. The website gets a special temporary pass to see just your email *** ### Why is it useful? * **Convenience**: You don't need to create and remember new passwords for every website * **Control**: You choose exactly what information to share * **Safety**: You can revoke access anytime without changing your main password *** ### Why is it secure? * Your actual password is never shared with other websites * You can see and control what information each website can access * The permissions you grant can expire automatically * You can cancel access at any time *** ### Real-world example When you use "Log in with Google" on a shopping website, you're using OAuth. The shopping site gets permission to know who you are, but it can't see your emails, change your Google password, or access your other Google services unless you specifically allow it. Think of it as letting a friend borrow a book from your shelf, rather than giving them the key to your entire house. Learn more here: [https://oauth.net/](https://oauth.net/)
